Question about Network & Wireless Adapters

1 Answer

Wireless connection I just bought a Netgear Range max Router. I also bought a Toshiba satellite laptop, with a built in wireless card. the router is entirely configured and working(I know this because I have a desktop that is already connected to the router and working fine.), the laptop's wireless is turned on, and it recognizes and gives me the option to connect. whenever I try however, it takes several moments and tells me that it cannot connect. Whenever I try to repair or diagnose, I simply get a few different answers, such as "Try again" or "unknown problem" any ideas? Thank you.

Re: Wireless connection

Try turning off encryption on the router. If you can connect after that it is an encryption problem.

Netgear wirless - installed on toshiba satellite a45 - S151 will not connect to internet router = comcast - linksys also causes conflict with connection of other wireless computer

Presumably, you have configured your wireless router:
* SSID (your "network name")
* encryption-level ('WPA' or higher security)
* password for your network

With that information, any wireless device (iPod Touch, iPhone, NetGear wireless adapter) should be able to connect to your wireless router.

> conflict with connection

Exactly what error-message are you getting?

Netgear wireless adapter wg111t will not work work

It's impossible that the wireless router cannot detect your wireless adapter wg111t.
You try to test another one if still have a problem connecting with your wireless router.
If that router can see another wireless network available then maybe your Netgear wireless adapter have a problem incomplete installation or the wireless device is defective.
I have encounter like this before so maybe it's the same with.
Hope my tip will help you a lot.
Good luck!

Toshiba Laptop builtin wireless modem can't find any network

If the laptop is 3 years old then it probably requires a chipset update. Goto intel's website and use the driver update utility. If this does not work then your wireless connection may be broken. You can buy a wifi USB card for less than £10 if you shop around. Good luck

Wn121t won't connect to the router

No Wireless Connection Found in Range

Note: You need to use a computer hardwired to the router to check the wireless settings.

1. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
2. Connect to the router by typing or in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
3. A window will prompt for a user name and password. The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password".

Note: If it does not take password as the password, you might have changed it when you have run the NETGEAR Setup CD so please try other passwords. If you cannot remember the password, you need to reset the router and run the Setup CD to reconfigure it.

4. Click the Wireless Settings under Advanced tab.
5. Check the box under Enable Wireless Router Radio and Enable Wireless SSID Broadcast.
6. Click the Wireless Settings under Setup.
7. Change Channel (recommended are 1, 6 and 11).
8. Change the SSID to uniquely identify your network. You might have a similar SSID with your neighbor.

Note: Do not change the SSID if there are already other wireless computers that can connect to the network.

Other factors that you may consider when you are not able to view any available wireless network:

a. Switch for the wireless adapter is turned off
b. Distance between the wireless router and computer
c. Possible wireless interferences

Is the wireless enabled for your router? Try typing and use the default password to access your router settings. Check if wireless is enabled, SSID is broadcasted, and security is off or properly configured.

Getting setup

Unless you get into the configuration of the router, you don't have to worry about 'messing' anything up... you just need to know the SSID (the name of the wifi connection they configured) and the password, if it is protected with WEP or WAP... just install the card into the laptop with the proper drivers, and use either the utility that came with the laptop (turn off the Windows Wireless Config in your services.msc) or use Windows Wireless Config Utility to access (find) the SSID of her router..

Can't see any wireless networks in the area, but I know there are many

Can your other laptop see the laptop with the problem. First check that it is being given an IP address in your router and set to obtain IP address automatically. You may need to give the wireless card an ip address and DNS address yourself within the same range as the others; this way you know the addresses are correct. Just check that your problem laptop has the same network group name, right click my computer>properties>computer name and check the workgroup name is tha same as rest of your pc's. Keep trying you'll win in the end!
