Wireless connection

I just bought a Netgear Range max Router. I also bought a Toshiba satellite laptop, with a built in wireless card. the router is entirely configured and working(I know this because I have a desktop that is already connected to the router and working fine.), the laptop's wireless is turned on, and it recognizes and gives me the option to connect. whenever I try however, it takes several moments and tells me that it cannot connect. Whenever I try to repair or diagnose, I simply get a few different answers, such as "Try again" or "unknown problem" any ideas?
