You need a Windows XP installation CD plus the product installation code. You may find purchasing Windows XP Pro difficult as it is not widely available now and it soon will no longer be supported by Microsoft. I recommend you keep Windows Vista. Try a system restore point prior to the date you started experiencing issues and see if the registry repair does the trick. If your Vista software has a repair facility, use it. Otherwise it is an OS issue and you may have to reload the machine from scratch using the recovery software that came with it. No software? - if so, in deep doo doo.
You don't say what the nature of the installation problem is, but you should make sure you are logged into your computer as an Administrator user. You could also try clicking the 'Browse this disc' button in the menu that appears when you insert the DVD-ROM, go into the Windows/Sibelius folder and right-click SibeliusEnglishInstaller.msi in order to choose 'Run as Administrator'.
