Firmware install on Pentax ist DS. Had Ver2.0 & everything worked fine. Simply wanted to upgrade to V2.02 to used SDHC cards. User Power AC and install ran approx 90 secs and displayed showed half way thru Phase 2/2 and then LCD went blank. No 'Complete' displayed. Now camera operates but no back LCD monitor display (top small LCD seems to work) and card seems not to read or write. Camera does release shutter but otherwise camera is not useable, Help!

If you're using a card larger than 2GB then it's an SDHC card, not an SD card. The *ist DL works with SD cards, which top out at 2GB. Even though higher-capacity SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they will not work with this camera.

No. There are hardware difference between the SD and SDHC specs that cannot be overcome by firmware changes. While SD cards will work in SDHC devices, there is nothing that can be done to make SDHC cards work in SD devices.

The camera uses SD memory cards. SD cards max out at 2GB. SDHC cards run from 4GB up, but they cannot be used in SD devices. SD cards can be used in SDHC devices.
Unfortunately, the Pentax K100D is not SDHC
compatible, which means that the camera can be equipped with a maximum
memory capacity of 2GB.
It is also advisable to choose a fast
version of the Secure Digital memory card, such as Ultra II or Extreme
III by SanDisk. I would recommend using a memory card of at least
512MB, or even 1GB if you can.
I've used Sandisk Ultra II 512M cards, a PQI 1G and a Transcend 1G card (all high speed rated) in the *istDS. I've done about 1500 exposures now, many RAW, and have done several rounds of upload to my computer. No problems at all. These same cards work flawlessly in a Panasonic FZ10 as well.
Either you have had a bit of bad luck, two defective SD cards in a row, or have a *istDS with a stuck or bad memory card controller. Try using the Reset command in the Set Up Menu, see if that helps.
BTW, always format SD cards with the camera once before you start using them.
