Question about Sony STR-DG510 Receiver

1 Answer

No picture? I can get my speakers to work; however, I can't get any picture at all. I can get a picture from my dvd to projector using component video. Mind you, when the picture goes through the STR-DG510 the picture is lost but keeps the sound. I use the same jacks in the projector both times, I'm wondering if i have to change a setting on the STR-DG510? (it is set to DVD)

I seem to have the same problem, i hooked everything up per the diagrams using hdmi cables. i received a picture from the dvd player but i'm getting nothing from the set top box. unless there is something i am missing i'm leaning towards a faulty unit. When i scrapped the hdmi cables and used component cables i got a picture from the cable box. I'm wondering if the receiver may have a faulty hdmi out to tv port.

I called sony, even though the manuel shows that you can use a component wire to hook up the set top box and hdmi for the tv and dvd sony claims that you can not do this. The cable box must also be wired with an hdmi cable going into the video 2 port.sony claims it doesn't work using component and hdmi together because the receiver is unable to up convert. I hope this helps. I have not tried it yet (i'm at work) we'll see what happens when i get home.

Digital Coaxial not working on DVD player

There might be several problems. As the projector has component only connections and the DVD player none, then if the Receiver has component out, you can hook it up to that. If the receiver has HDMI inputs then you can connect the DVD player via the HDMI socket to it. The Coax sockets on the DVD player will be for sound. Number one should be connected to Digital coax 1 and assigned for it.
It's possible that the sound on the DVD player is switched off on the coax or has the wrong format selected. You will need to see the player's menu for this, so if you can't see the screen using the projector, connect a TV instead.
However if the receiver has no component out and no HDMI sockets you will have real problems connecting the DVD and using the projector with it. Though you should be able to hear the sound via the Denon.

DVD connection

You can use any dvd player to connect to this unit as long as it has either a S-Video plug or uses RCA plugs. These cables only transmit the Picture and not the sound. You will need to connect the DVD player up to something that can produce the sound as the HP only has a mono speaker.

Dvd player to projector

Yes please.
You can connect it either thru the RCA Composite output(yellow) of your DVD or thru the S-Video or even thru the component out(YPbPR) connections. In the component out you would require three RCA cables and would give you the best possible picture.

YPbPr and YCbCr signal

with component, if there is not a solid signal, it'll go blue. if the dvd is dirty, the player is dirty, or any other break in signal, it'll go blue. clean your dvd and/or player.
