Samsung HLP4663W 46 in. fan noise

My TV won't turn on and the fan makes a horrible noise. Is this something I can fix or will it need to be serviced at the shop?

Fan noise just started on the same set. It is very  loud to start and lessens as time goes by...or do my ears just adjust?

You may have several problems but the one I know for sure is the fan noise you hear is not the fan but the color wheel, the barring is screeching. you may need a lamp as well. if you are not a tech DONOT ATTEMPT THIS REPAIR leave this to the pros.

teachmug, fans are brushless fans and only make whispering sound the color wheel has a more of a wining noise. when they go bad it is a high pitched squeal. the color wheel spins at 4400 rpms.

Great reasoning work! In fact, the lamp will not light if the color wheel does not spin-up. Fans will not stop the process of lamp ignition. Instead, a fan will be detected and a message will appear on the screen telling which fan has stopped. You need to have the color wheel replaced.

You have 4 different fans inside of your TV. The biggest challenge - to pinpoint which one is bad. I would recommend just to get 'em all and replace 'em all. They will start fail one after another anyway.

DLP TV Samsung HLP4663W

Your problem could be your lamp is not seeted all the way in. Take you lamp out and put it back in. Or it could be you ballast that lights you lamp is bad. You may need a new ballast.
