Removing cover from old Gateway PC to add memory

Merry Christmas!
I have an old Gateway PC Model # MFATXNIN NMZ 300X CEL that is running fine. I want to add more memory to it but can't seem to find out how to remove the top cover without perhaps damaging it.
Any ideas?

Actually the back hinges off after you remove a mounting screw.

There is a front release just below the Gateway logo that you depress which releases the cover. This was unlike any I've ever seen.

I want to thank you very much for replying so fast.

    Happy Holidays

If your Gateway PC is laying horizontally flat. There will be a black button in front of the PC on the left side of the CD-Rom. Push really hard. And WallAA!

First, remove the green screw on the back, just above the sound card jacks. Next, press the black release latch located just above the Gateway logo on the front of the case. The latch release is a black plastic section of the front and is about 2" wide. Lift the front of the cover up and it will hinge at the back edge.

You remove the two screws on back and push in release on front bezel, it is located across from ear and mic jacks push it in and flip panel out. Panel is hinged. I laid case on side and opened it.Also if it has bottom support it just pops off.....

Look on the front and you will see a plastic latch that you push in. This will release the cover.

Take out all scews in the back, You should check to see if the front comes off. you may need some pliers to pop the front off, their should be some scews under the front face of the computer. then you can remove the shell.

ok you need to goto the microsoft web page
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

but unfortunatly you need a xp disk to do this
i am unaware of anyway to fix it without the disk as you need to rewrite from the disk to get windows working
if it was an oem install then forget it you need the oem disk
if YOU installed xp just get a disk that is compatable with your version

(PLEASE READ THE WARNINGS ON MS PAGE FIRST)

RAM upgrade for Gateway model MFATXNIN NMZ 300L?

Hi,
The system takes PC133 SDRAM, as far as i know without performing a BIOS flash it can take up to 1GB (2x512MB) most of these PC's are restricted to 2x256 so a BIOS flash could be imminent in this case.

Good luck
