When i go to shoot a picture on full auto the

When i go to shoot a picture on full auto the round green light comes on in the r/h corner of the view finder. I have to wait until the readings on the l/h side of the view finder dissapear [approx 4 seconds] before I can press the shutter again and shoot.
I had been "playing around " with different settings to learn this wonderful camera.....what have I done?
The camera always took photos on auto before.
I have reset the camera by the manual, yet this is still happening.
Can you hlp?
