Question about Meade Optics

Stripped gears on the focuser

I have a 10 year old 8in meade refelcting telescope. The gears are stripped on the focuser. I need the barrel replaced and the worm gears on the device you turn to focus. Where can I order these parts?

Thank you,

Carl Nuzzo

Meade will not have parts, focusers are always replaced as an entire unit-- but if the mirror is still good you can buy a replacement focuser here:

The eye piece threads are stripped. This renders the telescope useless.

Eyepieces DO NOT have threads -- they slip into either the focuser or the diagonal depending on which scope type you own.

You MUST MEAN the focuser is stripped-- a new 60mm focuser assembly will cost you about $20-$30 if you can find one. Call Meade first here: and see if they will sell you one. If not look around this web site:

Meade 2120 (basic) az knob turns but does not turn the fork. How do I fix this? Siderial motor seems to work.

There is a small set-screw near the focuser shaft. Is it tight?

Also you may need to open up the focuser and see if the gears are not stripped.

Can't focus

Unless you can find another "used broken" ETX of same model-- to get the focus off of-- your only recourse will be to send it back to Meade for repair--
