Question about Maytag MGR5775QDS Dual Fuel (Electric and Gas) Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Maytag MGR5775QDW won't bake

I am having a problem using the baking feature on this Maytag stove. The bruners work, and so does the broiler. When I try to make it bake, it does not light. It is not the dual gas, electric, but it is the only product that comes up.

I am having the same problem

  • mayonnaise Feb 18, 2008

I bought my Maytag in January of 04. Same model. Fortunately, I got the extended warranty which covers it through january 6, 09. I have had 10, going on 11 repairs for the clock overlay. The exact same part is ordered every time. Symptoms: baking temp varies up to 50 degrees, timer display fades out, clock jumps ahead 4 to 4.5 hours all on its own. It is ready for an exorcism. Warranty people say the repairing company needs to come back and fix it right. The various repairing companies say it has to be a defective part, but are bound by the contract to fix it.

Yes, we too have this problem. Everything else works except for the baking feature. We are going to call to see if something can be done. I hope so.

    Same problem.......

Pain in the rear. I have read about many people having the same problem with many versions of the Maytag Range. Mine is about 2 years old. I guess that is why they don't run their expensive ads about their products never needing repair anymore.

Find the bake ignitor (you may need to remove bottom drawer or oven cavity floor to get to the ignitor). Turn on the bake. If the bake ignitor comes on (starts glowing after a few seconds) - check the amperage on the bake ignitor wires when it's on. If the ignitor is a round style - amperage should be 2.5-3A, if the ignitor is rectangular - 3 - 3.6A. If less than 2.5A or 3A respectively - replace ignitor. If the ignitor does not come on - check the voltage on the ignitor, should be the line voltage 110-120v AC. If there is a line voltage on the ignitor and it's not coming on - replace.
Ignitor part numbers for round style ones: 4342528, WB2X9154, SGR403, 5304401265;
rectangular styles: 12400035, WB13K21, WB2X9998, SGR412, NR020, 5303935066, 814269, 9753108.
Ignitors of the same shape (i.e. rectangular) are interchangeable, if you can splice the wires.

Good luck!

They last 3-5 years depending how much you use your stove.
Disconnect POWER to the stove, remove the screws holding the lower element to the back of the inside of the stove, pull out carefully and remove the 2 screws holding the wires on. Check the element with an ohm meter, it should read 0 (zero or very close) resistance on an ohm meter. You may also take it to a store that sells replacements ($25) and they may check it for you.

Oven won't work. Maytag Performa Stove. Broiler and burners work.

sounds like your bake element is gone
but the model number would help a great deal

pul out the stove unplug it, take off the back, and inspect the connections on the bottom element

if its gas its probably your ignitor
take out the racks
take out the bottom
set to bake
you should see a very bright light within a minute
if you dont thats the ignitor

anyway both parts are available
and both are a pretty starigt forward repair

My stove will not heat using bake but will work for broiler so I know it is not a heating problem. Help!

this model is not a dual fuel, and you do have a heating problem, there are two burners, a bake burner and a broil burner, both have ignitors. You have a bad bake ignitor.

You probably need to replace the baking igniter, (Igniter, bake burner
Part Number: AP4102011 made by MAYTAG).

I tested the igniter function by (CAREFULLY) jerryrigging a bridge to wire the BAKE igniter to the BROILER controls.(Push/click plugs accessible by opening up the stove back) Testing thebroiler controls this way the bake element remained cold. I then did the same test but connected the BROILER igniter to the BAKE controls and got a good glow. This indicates that the controls work but the Bake igniter's faulty!

You can access the bake igniter by removal of 2 screws at the front at the platform just inside the top oven. The broil and bake igniters appear to be identical but the push/click plugs are reversed at the back of the stove. (hence the CAREFUL jerry rigged wiring bridge.)The parts and wiring are pretty simple and visual once you get thecovers off. Opening up the stove back is just a matter of removingseveral screws. UNPLUG the stove before you work. If you test as Idescribed, make all connections while UNPLUGGED and then plug it inonly for the brief test. Unplug again while disconnecting/reconnecting.Hope this helps.

the broiler came on automatically??? not a sensor issue. sounds as if you have a broken wire perhaps, or a faulty control panel energizing the broil element w/o being prompted to. does it say its broiling when element comes on??
