Yes, display button turns it light or dark but I have no images. Thanks

  • Mitch50 Dec 26, 2007

Camera has not been dropped or abused. Actually, I do inspections for insurance companies and moving companies and I am very careful with it. I turned it on one day and the screen just doesn't show anything. I can still take photos using the viewfinder, but that is pretty much all I can do. No, I cannot see the menu displayed on the screen, either. Thanks, Sally

  • Mitch50 Dec 26, 2007

Ok, I set the dial by the viewfinder to M and on the top left corner I pushed the top button, which looks like a lightning strike. I can get auto flash or no flash but I am unsure about the compulsory. Sorry but am I doing something wrong???

  • Mitch50 Dec 26, 2007

I will try the few hours. I did replace batteries but did it after 60 seconds. Thanks

  • Mitch50 Dec 26, 2007

Yes, I did the 4th option n page 64 with it set on Manual mode. I still can't see anything on the screen. Sally

  • Mitch50 Dec 26, 2007

I can't see anything in playback mode, either. Sally

  • Mitch50 Dec 26, 2007

OK, I went a couple of hours with no battery and then replaced it. I was afraid it was the screen. So, suggestions on repair as to where I can send it, ETC. The warranty has probably expired. Sally

Do as i say. go to manual mode.
now there you will have three options for flash as follows
auto flash
no flash
compulsory flash

now choose compulsory flash.
your screen must become bright

Have you tried a hard reset on their camera by removing the main
power batteries for 60 seconds and the reinserting them as if it were
the first time power up. This may not fix your particular problem, but
when the processor that runs all of the electronic features of the
camera gets confused, this is the best way to clear its confusion.
even if problem is not cleared take it to service centre.

if u press that lightning button once ur option changes right?

i saw this problem two days before with my friends canon power shot a570
it had same problem. image was very dark. but view finder was clear. image was also clear. when we went to that manual mode (that M in top) and the pressed the lightning button once it changed to auto flash. then we pressed it again . we got that compulsory flash option. are you not getting it?

    i asked you another question?
is the photos are able to see in play back mode?

if you are able to see photos in play back mode also there is nothin wrong with the hard ware.
even if you are not able see anything in playback mode it may be a hardware problem.
so ensure that LCD hardware is the problem use your AV codr to connect it to TV and see if u can see everythin in TV in both shooting mode and play back mode...

tel me the the result of this comment

  • dewan nafees ahmed Dec 26, 2007

there is display in TV when u connect it to your TV?? is it?
if yes then LCD is the problem surely.. u will need to change it in your service centre..
it will cost as per their fixed rates.. but please do it in service centre.. they deliver the best solution of products

    I see...

Did you try removing the batteries for a few hours (this will reset the camera)? Also, try new batteries...they could be the problem.

Tinkering with the settings (buttons) will not cause your screen to turn on. The problem here is with the screen itself (hardware malfunction) or the software (software corruption) of the camera that controls the screen.

No image is captured by the screen itself (LCD screen works but completely dark).

Did you try pressing the display button several times? in both viewing mode and record mode? Cycle through all display modes, s you get used to the button, so it does not trow you off when it happens again.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free worldwide, and may also include free shipping both ways (free shipping varies with countries). This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Canon power shot sd1000 black dot on lens

If by saying the upper right corner of the lens you really mean that there is a dark spot on each image AND the rear display, there may be dirt or dust on the lens itself. Clean the lens with an optical quality cleaner. Do not use paper towels and Windex or the like - as paper towels can scratch the lens.

It is also possible that the dark spot is a "stuck pixel" on the image sensor inside the camera. There is no way to repair a stuck pixel outside of replacing the sensor. Any dark spot (regardless of source) can be edited out by using image editing software. This will allow you to to make the dark spot less noticeable - or practically invisible.

If the dark spot is on the rear display only, it can also be a result of a "stuck pixel" on the display itself. This should not show up an images, but only on the display. There is little that can be done outside of replacing the entire rear screen.

There are other things that can cause these problems, but those listed above are the most common.

I hope this was Very Helpful and good luck!

Loose display screen on Canon Powersho G6 camera.

Try your local camera repair shop. They should have extra screws. You could also buy a nonworking camera on Ebay and use it for parts.

If you have any nonworking electronics laying around you can take some screws from them and see if they fit.

They should be metric.

Light displays on screen but no image

Can you see images taken earlier from memory in view mode ?
Can you access the menu and see it displayed on the screen ?
If yes to both, then your CCD sensor most likely is defekt.

No DIY recommended.

Problems in A85

It appears the CCD image sensor is going bad. Both these cameras are specified in Canon's technical notice regarding this issue. If Canon determines that this is the problem (and almost certainly it is), they will repair your cameras at no cost, regardless of warranty status. If you're not in the US, contact your regional Canon service facility.
