Re: having trouble setting up dvd/vcr

Slide down the cover on remote control. On the bottom right side you'll see a little switch(usually is cowered with the warning white little sticker).Slide that switch to DVD1(or DVD2 if somebody got different setting).Power up DVD/VCR combo press system menu botton,go to settings, change to DVD3(factory default)and there you go.Good luck.

How to Connect VCR directly to the TV without problemd

The VCR is today old technology that doesn't marry well with the latest tv sets and accessories. The best way is to connect via a scart lead.

There have been so few digital vcr's produced few households have them - most are analogue format and must either record from a set-top box, from some tv sets while watching the programme, from a dvd or dvr or anything with a scart socket...
Mostly the in-built uhf modulator is redundant and generally the machines are now only suitable for playback of previously recorded tapes, though I still find them useful for recording.

Would like to record from my tv to my magnavox dvd/vcr combo box

If I understand your request right, You do not have cable or satellite box.
You can not record from your TV. You use the TV as a monitor from the dvd/vcr combo box. What the box receives is what shows on the TV. So you will have to have a digital convertor hooked to the (antenna in) dvd/vcr combo box, (antenna out to the tv antenna in) Depending on the antenna you are using that is on the other end of your cable-in coax connection this will hook to your antenna in on the digital convertor box. If your cable is hooked up and operating correctly and directly to the tv that is digital ready you probabbly have a good picture. When the vhf/uhf signal was transmitted you could go from the dvd/vcr to the tv with no problem. But now that the signal is digital and the tv is set for digital the dvd/vcr will not pass a digital signal to the tv. Best suggestion, you have to get a digital dvd/vcr receiver. Your FIOS box is typically a Motorola Digital Cable Tuner. In order to record from the VCR your FISO will have control of the tuner, not the vcr. If your FIOS has two video outputs on it for video (av connections), one should be plugged into you tv set and the other should be plugged into the VCR input. Your cable tuner will have to be set for the channel you wish to record ahead of time while the VCR tuner has to be set to record the line input at whatever time you wish to record. If your FISO has one video output line (av connections), your VCR has to be set to channel 3 when you record (provided that is the channel your FISO box is set for when viewing TV over the coax cable) and you will have to attach the coaxial output from the FISO into the coax input of your VCR.

The only way around this is to get a splitter and split the coax line so that the FIOS is connected to the coax as it is now and the VCR is connected to a seperate line using the coax input, however using this configuration will prevent you from recording digital channels. If you have a cable ready VCR, it will probably only recognize channels up to 150.

If you really want to get it to record digital channels without the hassles find out if Verizon has a FISO box with DVR to it or connect a Tivo to your FISO. Tivo will tune the FSIO when it records and it's very user friendly to use.

Cable box, digital service, channels not appearing

connect the RF lead from the wall to your cable box then out from that to your dvd then out from your dvd to your tv. now connect a scart lead from the cable box to AV 2 on the DVD then connect AV 1 on the DVD to your TV if you have a second scart on your tv connect that to the cable box. NOW on the DVD select AV2 now whatever is on the cable box will be recorded onto DVD/VCR. Put the DVD recorder into VCR mode and set it to auto tune all the Digital Video Broadcasts. You cannot physically tune the cable boxes own channels into the DVD via RF it has to be via a scart.

Setting up DVD/VCR

Depends how you have connected to the TV.

You will need to set your TV to the relevant socket you have connected the DVD/VCR into.

S-Video, Component , composite etc

These will be EXT 1 , EXT 2 or AV 1, AV 2 etc.

Problem with programmed recordings

DID you set the channel on the VCR to the sttating your recording? Also does your cable go to the tv, then to the vcr? If so the channel you record will be the one your watching. Or did you accidently screw the cable into the "cable out" on the dvr?
