There are principally two chief causes for this type (calibration) of burn failure:
Inadequate quality media (disks).Verbatim is always a solid choice. However, more important than the brand-name disks are sold under, is the actual manufacturer. You can determine this with the aid of a little software tool called "DVD Identifier". There is an entire sub-culture devoted to tracking the best media available, right down to the manufacturing lot level.
Drive failing.Since you say that it works consistently otherwise, this option is unlikely.
Good luck, and please do post back ...
to let me (and interested others) know how things worked out,
to provide clarification or feedback,
if you have ANY further questions.

i have a problem about burning a vcd. ive got a nero 6 application in my dell optiplex Pc. i put a blank cd-r into the liteon dvd drive. after i imported the needed mpg video files in nero vcd maker, it takes a lot of time to burn, and when it reached 100%, the software then ask me to save the image file of the compilation, and the process ended. But when i tried to test the vcd, it prompted as if its blank. Is there a possibity that the mpeg files were not burned in the blank cd? Or maybe im just lacking of the right procedures to follow. please let me know. thanks

I think its a common problem with this drive. fails to recognise DVD.s sometimes, response time is long, gives writing errors "Could not perform end of disk-at-once". Where can I get reliable firmware for this. My notebook is an Acer Aspire 4520 with the same recorder. Please help! Thanks!

Amilo pa 2548 Vista Home Premium: DVD drive reads discs, but when I insert blank DVD (not double-sided - notebook never supported them) it makes a lot of strange noises worrying me, and it never stops - blank DVDs aren't recognized more. No recording software can be used. Looks like it tries to find a track moving head so hard as it can. Year and a few passed, not a lot of discs recorded, and looks that drive became semi-dead. DVD drive is HL-DT-ST GSA-T20N ATA.
