Yeah its the right thing. Hook the RF Modulator to the cable connector on the back of your TV. (the one with the threads) and hook the cable from your Atari (its a AV cable) to the RF Modulator. set the little swithch on your Atari to chanel 3 or 4, then set your TV the the same channel and enjoy your Retro Gaming goodness (I Love My Atari 2600)

Receiving no signal with converter box

Where is the "no signal" coming from, the converter box or tv? If tv then unplug the dvd player and plug the plugs into the converter so the wires go from the converter into the rf modulator. set the tv up to watch dvds and try your channel scan gain. If it works then post again and we'll figure out the best way to connect the converter and dvd to the tv.

I have separate dvd player and vcr, how do I hook coverter box up

It took some time, but I finally have this figured it out so everything works.

I have the same setup, but I had one additional piece to the puzzle that I had to figure out. I have an older TV and use and antenna, but had to buy an Audio/Video RF Modulator a couple of years ago to use my VCR & DVD player with the old setup.

Get yourself an Audio/Vido RF Modulator (you can pick one up for about $20-30).
Connect the TV to the RF Modulator.
You should have 2 connectors for your antenna. Connect one to the converter "To Ant" and the other to the RF Modulator.
Connect the convertor A/V cable to "IN" on your VCR.
Connect the cable from converter "To TV (RF)" to "UHF/VHF from Ant" on VCR.
Connect the VCR "OUT" cable to the RF Modulator.
Connect DVD A/V cables to A/V input on VCR.

Your TV should be set to Channel 3 (or 4, depending on your setup) and depending on your "input" connections, you should be able to view vidoes from VCR like this and DVD by changing the input (the button should be on your VCR or other remote). For ex. my input changes on my VCR from channels, to L1 & L2. My converter & VCR play on L1 and DVD's play when I change it to L2.

Now, I just have to figure out how to add the converter box to my universal remote. :)
Good luck!

Hook up of new dvd player to comcast cable box

I ran into the same problem, Radio Shack has a device called a RF Modulator. The model # is Model: 15-2526 | Catalog #: 15-2526, the price is $27.49. On the back there is a place for cable in and cable out to tv. There are the 3 rca jacks on the back also, 1 video (yellow) and 2 audio (red/white) That simple. Set the tv to channel 3, turn on the dvd player and it automaticlly puts the dvd on the screen. Turn it off and back to normal cable. Works great, I use one myself. hope this helps. Steve

Connections

Hi If I'm understanding what you have written, the new DVD should hook up exactly the same way your old one did. You connect the red and white cable from the "Audio out" connectors on your new DVD to the "Audio In" connectors on the RF modulator, then connect the Svideo out on the DVD to the Svideo connector on the RF modulator. Then put your TV on channel 3 or 4 depending on what the switch on the modulator is set to, and all should work fine. I would advise you hook your old one back up, then if it works, simply unplug the cables from you old DVD and plug them into the proper jacks on the new one. This eliminates bad cables. If you then get sound, but no picture, the DVD may be set to progressive scan (check manual for procedure take it out of that mode),If you get nothing, then I suspect there is a problem with the new DVD player. The TV/VIDEO switch they mention, would be a switch on the TV or TV remote if you had a newer TV with RCA inputs.....You don't, so disregard that, it does not apply to your TV. You would not need the RF modulator if your TV had that switch. Good Luck!...These things can be a pain, I hope this helps!
