Mr. Heater Buddy Portable Problems...

Dude - Can you tell me why my portable Mr. Heater Buddy turns off as soon as I move the knob from Pilot to the low or hi settings? It's Christmas day and our ice fishing trip is ruined; all the stores are closed and I would have no idea how to fix the problem. Wife bought it 2 1/2 months ago as a present, and now she can't even return it to the store. Help!!!!! TIA - Frustrated In Wisconsin

Re: Mr. Heater Buddy Portable Problems...

Ok, your unit must be propane. look on the back where the propane line feeds the nozzle. there should be a very small copper line with two spade connectors on it. this is your millivolt generator line. with a flame at the nozzle the generator makes a very small electrical current which feeds to the main valve and keeps it open. take a piece of wire and jumper these two spade connections together and try lighting the unit again. if it stays on, the hi limit is shot. you can get by with the connections jumped out, you just don't have the safety margin if it were connected. IF with the spade connections jumped out the unit still shuts off, the generator tube needs to be changed.

When mr heater portable buddy is on for about 30minuts control valve sticks on high and even on low when heater cools moves it moves freely

The solution is to contact Mr. Heater tech support. Once I made contact with them they took my complain very seriously and wanted immediately to inspect my unit. They issued a FedEx Pickup request to take my unit back to Ohio. They're sending me a replacement unit which they promised to test before send it it me.

When I press down and turn the know the pilot lights but as soon as you let up on the knob to turn it there is a click and the pilot light goes out.. This is on my Mr. Heater Big Buddy

When the pilot lights continue holding the button down for a full minute and then release. It should stay lit then to allow you to turn it to the on position. If the pilot will not stay lit after holding it for the full minute, then the thermocouple will need to be replaced.
Hope this helps.

Pilot after a few minutes of operation flutters and slowly goes out. lil Buddy Heater

The thermocouple is bad or not aligned properly. It is the metal bar in front of the pilot light. This bar senses the heat put off by the pilot light. If it does not get hot it will not allow the gas to flow. You either need to align it so that it is in front of the pilot light and receives enough heat to allow the gas valve to operate or possibly the thermocouple has gone bad and needs replacing.

No propane comes thourgh pilot on mr buddy heater

If the pilot will not light get a q-tip and alcohol and remove the wire grill and be sure the cotton doesn't come off the end of the stick wet the cotton with the alcohol and twist it and push it down into the pilot tube 2 full inches. Let the alcohol soak for 30 seconds and while twisting pull the q-tip out. Try this until the pilot lights.

Can't turn gas **** past pilot

Unfortunately, Mr. Heater does a very poor job of writing user manuals, I didn’t even know my unit had a quick connect until I saw it on the side of the box. As it turns out, the spring loaded fuel **** has three positions; full up for safety lock, fully depressed to select/ignite the pilot, and half depressed to select the heat levels. I guess it was just dumb luck that I managed to get it to work the first time since there is nothing in the manual about this. Since I discovered the third position (sheerly by accident) I have not had any more problems.
