Paper won't feed

I've had the printer for a few years now. Over the past couple of months, it has had a lot of trouble feeding the paper from the main paper tray--the printer makes a sound of trying to grasp the paper two times, but comes up empty. I've tried laser paper and lighter weight paper. Any ideas? Is it just time to get a new one?

I haven't tried this yet as I just found it today, but it seems to work for other people.

Re: paper won't feed

You could try cleaning the rubber feed roller with a slightly damp rag, or even having feed assy replaced but you are right probally better off replacing it.

Canon ip2600 won't feed paper

I fixed mine!! I cut a letter size paper in half lengthwise (so it was skinny and long). Held the printer on my lap with both top and bottom trays open. I noticed the white pegs and skinny black roller inside were turning when I turned it on, so I waited til they were spinning and slid the paper between them along the right side. (Kind of a reverse feed). Had to do it between the crazy ink returns. Yes, the paper crumpled a little, and I did it a couple of times with a couple of papers. Something gave, because after that it started feeding properly again!

I've had my brother mfc-7440n for over 2 years and it's been working great until this past week. Now, it has a paper jam every single time I try to print anything, causing me to have to remove the...

85% of paper jams are caused by worn rollers . The rubber treads in the rollers wears down, making them smooth, so they won't pick up the paper. Sometimes, they are aged, which also gives them a smoother rounded texture, causing jams. The quick fix is to liven up that roller with a mixture of alcohol and soap. Damp a rag with the solution and wipe the rollers clean with it. That's make them more pliable and the paper jams will cease. If you plan to keep your printer,

Replace the pick-up and feed rollers.

Metal Tab Separation- Pull out your paper tray and examine either end where the paper sits in. If any of the corners are held down by metal tabs, this is your paper feed system. Chances are, you only have one rubber roller or one set of rollers arranged along side of each other. Reach in where the tray goes and feel up. You should feel some rollers. They might be completely round, or they might be shaped like a half moon. Clean whichever part of them you can with the solution, and this should stop your paper jams. It might be necessary to turn them, but don't force them if they don't move freely.

Pickup Roller and Separation Pad-

If your printer uses this paper feed system, you should see a small piece of flat or slightly curved rubber or cork. It would be towards the end of the paper tray, or deep inside the paper loading cavity on top loaders. This 'separation pad' rubs against the paper feed roller, so if you find the pad, you've found the roller. Clean it and your jams should stop.

Three Roller Paper Separation System- Pull your paper tray out, and look for a roller on either end of it. If you find one, clean it. Then look inside the printer where that roller would rest with the paper tray inserted. You'll find another paper roller there. Clean this one also. Finally, look further back or closer to the front of your printer (depending on which way your paper feeds) to find another roller or set of rollers. Clean all of these, and your paper jams will go away

I have found in the past that these printers can have two things that cause them not to feed paper.

1. There is possibly small pieces of paper stuck in the paper feed mechanism. I would check inside the paper try and the rollers to make sure there is no paper stuck in there.

2. A lot of printers have problems with the rollers that feed paper going bad. Many times you can contact HP and they can replace them. Depending on the age of the printer it may cost something.

Epson Stylus Photo R350 giving a paper jam error message

An Epson service man (he was VERY kind to suggest this) told me to use a weak detergent solution on the rollers, NOT alcohol as that will dry out the material the rollers are made of. Although the problem has recurred a couple of times, it's worth repeating when necessary. I actually activate the 'print' command so it tries to feed in paper, while I FIRMLY hold a piece of fine cotton cloth stretched over a thin plastic ruler, which I hold down where the paper feed grabs its paper. The printer has a couple of tries to feed paper, reports an error message (because there was no paper) and I activate it again, thus exposing the WHOLE of the feed wheel to the cleansing cloth! WORTH A TRY!

Are your settings for media type and media weight are correct. Remember different paper, different settings. Make sure your feed rollers are not worn, if worn replace them. A lot of paper jams are caused by miss-feeding, due to worn feed rollers(try cleaning them with alcohol).

Documents print part way then stop

I've had similar problems in the past with my 1100dtn printer...there are several possible may simply be refusing to continue printing because the blue cartridge is completely out of spite of the black only setting.

Also, it could be some kind of software conflict, virus program, or spyware overload occuring in your PC...especially if the document you're trying to print is a large file, picture, or contains a lot of graphics. Try a test print from windows with other programs shut down.

Try completely removing the HP printer management software and then reinstall the latest version for your operating system from HP's web site.

A firmware upgrade may help. Firmware files and instructions are available on the HP web site. Mine printer has been running bug-free for about 18 months now...since I did a firmware upgrade. Firmware updates are complex...hopefully you'll find a simpler solution....but it may be needed, especially if your printer is more than a couple of years old.

Paper feed

The feed rollers are probably dirty from paper lint. The feed roller on the 922 is on the right side as you face the front of the printer. I use a damp sponge to clean it. Good luck.

Paper won't feed

The paper is pulled in with rubber traction wheels on a rotating rod where the bottom of the paper sits in the loading area. If these rubber wheels get slick or hard, they won't pull. Buffing the rubber wheels lightly with fine sandpaper will restore the wheels to the rubbery texture they need to pull the paper. But be SURE to completely clean any abrasive dust out of the machine before use.
