I have a kitchenaid mixer KSM90MC model and it was leaking oil. I attempted to take off a few screws to see if I could simply remove the housing to clean it up, and could not... I put the screws back in place, and now the mixer has no power! I did nothing to this thing other than take out and tighten a few screws!... one thing I noticed strange are the larger (plastic) screws on either side of the head of the unit, each above the locking mechanism on one side and the speed control knob on the other side. When I removed these, I noticed that they had copper coils attached to what looks like some kind of coal like stopper, and taking both out on either side, looked like they were supposed to be connected someway between the screws when in place? each came out seperately.... is this why it doesnt turn on now? is this coal chunk supposed to be touching through the middle of the head? ** confused ** as to what I did here.....removing screws and putting them back in should not cause it to lose power.
Thease coal like things are carbon brushes and need to contact copper coils for mixter to work so replace the carbon brushes and it will work again
Note you must put the brushes in correctly or they won't make contact and your mixer will not power on. You brushes are square with one side shaved off at an angle. When you put your brushes back in this shaved side must go towards the small sduare inside the brush holder. Look inside the hole and you will see a small square inside the holder. The shaved or angled side of the brush must face this small square. Hope this helped !!
