Wireless My son has a HP dv6626 and I have a HP dv6636 pavilion laptop. His wireless light is blue when it is turned on, but mine stays red even though it says that it is turned on. I do not believe it is working because I have a wireless router and it says to turn on my "wireless radio". Please help!!

Re: Wireless

Are you sure that it is red and not amber?

Amber, means that an integrated wireless device is turned off.
In which case these steps will help you.

I have a tx 1000 with pretty much the same problem. Short answer is : if you are still under warrenty demand that hp replace the entire unit (basically they put together a lousy design, it doesn't allow for adequate ventilation and consequently the motherboard cooks itself and other components attached to it. swapping out parts will only briefly "fix" the problem.
the simplest cheep fix is to get a usb wifi adapter and connect with that (untell eventually the machine will cease to boot, lights will come on fans will run but nothing else will happen)
and you like me will not only be the proud owner of a really cool looking paperweight but also will never consider buying anything from HP again.

Wireless not working

Did you disable the wireless card through the BIOS? Sometimes the wireless card can be accidentally turned off through one of the HP Wireless Assistant which will keep it from turning Blue when you press it

Wireless/LAN indicator on pc stays amber

best advice is as long as it's working don't try to fix it. you may cause more problems than you solve. as long as you get the internet ok, do you really care what color the light is?

Hp pavilion dv6000

I have an HP Pavillion dv9000, but they are similar.

Now if you are moving the Wireless switch on and off and the light stays red on both sides you probably have a dud of a wireless card. I had the same issue with mine at one point, what I did was get a hold of tech support, they mailed me a box with a prepaid shipping label to send them my laptop. They put in a new wireless card and shipped it back for free(of course it was still under warranty).

If you recently purchased this laptop you can usually log onto, go to the support section and do the chat with an HP tech or call 800-HP invent or 800-474-6836 24/7 and they will walk you thru the whole process.

But again just from your description, you have a dead air card. Call or online hp and have them fix it for you, especially if its still under warranty. If its not under warranty, then hit me back and i can give you a step by step on how to open up the laptop yourself and replace the card

Remote internet access

RESTORE YOUR COMPUTER! This just happened to me and i looked up and tried EVERYTHING! Since my wifi button had only stopped working 2 days ago, I restored my computer to 4 days prior because I was told that sometimes without you even knowing you allow stuff to get on your computer whenever you get online which could cause your computer to turn functions off automatically. My wifi button actually stopped working after I went into a mcdonalds with my computer an used their wifi so I think me allowing their wifi onto my computer did something to it because when I took it home the button was just red altogether and it was SOOO frustrating. But as soom as I restored it, my computer came back on and a little window popped up saying "Your wifi is currently off, toggle your wifi key to turn it on/off". I was so happy! The simpliest thing that no one would ever think of.
