Various buttons on the button control pad has been stopped working, now the entire pad has stopped working altogether. Does anyone know if it is the pad itself or the PCB/ICC/smart board that needs to be replaced?
I am not familiar with the Whirlpool microwaves; however, I just had the same problem with an LG over the range microwave. Several of the positions on the touchpad quit responding to touch. In our case, it was the touchpad itself that was the problem.
The touchpad on our microwave was held in place with adhesive. We pulled it off and replaced it with a new touchpad. Everything works now. The only complication is getting to the connector which carries the signals from the touchpad to the microwave controls. We had to remove and dissassemble the door to get to that connector.
The touchpad cost about $26.00.

I can't find my receipt to verify warranty coverage or where I purchased the microwave oven. I had a freak thing happen a couple days ago w/microwave. I came in and the fan is running, not the hood fan, the one that cools the microwave and the turn table isn't turning and the heat isn't on. I called and whirlpool says that according to my serial number my oven is out of warranty since it was manufactured in sep 08. My lable in the oven says feb 08. I thought that the date purchased is the date used to determine warranty expiration. Also I purchased the extended warranty but can't find the receipt and can't remember if I bought it at Lowe's or Best Buy. thanks, Lee Dillon Ps I ran the system through a trouble shooting sequence and it's must have reset something because it works fine now. I found the sequence in a packet inside the oven air grill. ie. while holding the cancel button open the door, unplug the oven for two seconds and plug it back in, press each button on the pad and see 8's on the display for each press. Afterward the system is fine.
