Power cord won't work

I have a sony vaio pcg-7y1l and recently the power cord stopped working. When I plug it in the light on the adapter doesn't come on anymore. Does anyone know if I can fix this because a new power cord is either like $50 or it won't ship to Alaska where I live for less then $30-$40 shipping.
