My zv5000 has worked well for at least 3 years.

My HP Pavilion zv5000 has worked well for at least 3 years. The battery failed over a year ago, but I have been using it primarily on mains power and it has been fine until this week. Over the past few days, it has been turning itself off, after short periods of time, for no obvious reason. It will now not start at all. Power is getting to the back of the machine OK, as far as I can see from the charging light up front, but when I press the "on" button, nothing happens apart from a brief flicker of the other 2 LEDs up front. Any ideas please.
Thank you.

Bob

Have you cleaned or blown out the ventilation ducts and grills since you have owned it. If you haven't, there is the possiblility that the thermal paste has been baked off the processor and there has been damage done to the motherboard. The laptop will run fine with no battery installed. Get a few cans of compressed air from an office supply store and using short bursts of air, blow out the grills and all the compartments. If there is easy access to the heatsink, most likely that needs to be pulled and cleaned, as well as the processor and new layer of thermal grease applied. Remember though, if it isn't powering up at all, there could be the possiblility that the ac adapter is no longer putting out the correct voltage to power the system up efficiently. Have your power supply tested, to make sure it is putting out the correct voltage under load.

Testimonial: "Thanks Parrothead - I'll try all of these. I haven't cleaned it out since new, so that's an obvious start. Will update u after testing the ac adapter"

I bought a replacement hp battery for my HP Pavillion zv5000 a year ago. It was working fine for about 6-8 months. Then, it seemed to stopped storing energy even when the charging light stopped and...

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.

My Hp pavilion zv5000 power fail and goes on battery mode, i have to plug and unplug to make it work, please help

The first thing to do is test an another charger,
maybe a workshop let you try theirs to get your problem sorted out.
if it works fine with the other charger, then its just to buy a new one.
if the same problem still exists with an another charger,
then its your charger connection solderings that are loose.
To prevent further damage to the motherboard
you must leave it to a workshop for resoldering the charger connection on to the motherboard
hope this was any help,if helpfull, Please vote!

Hp pavilion ZV5000 was working fing, now it does not start, no lights, with A/C adaptor or battery, wonder if this is a common issue that others have seen.

Yes it is. You either have a bad AC adaptor or a bad internal power supply. My guess, the power supply.
About a $300 fix when sent back to HP. I fixed mine once. Next time its a new computer.

Hp pavilion zv6000 wont recognize dvd+r

Hi Terry,

The answer is pretty simple, the ZV series is about 4 years old, back then DVD manufacturers decided which formats they would support as it was too expensive to make desktop drives, let alone, laptop drives that supported all formats. That drive only works with DVD-R and I believe DVD-RW. If you want to burn other formats, the laptop will only support them if you add an external drive of a newer make.

Note: Virtually all current models support ALL DVD formats and many support BluRay as well.

Hope this helps,

Chris
