DVD RW Format Problem

I have recently purchased a laptop with Windows Vista Starter OS (Licensed Version) and the laptop is having Optiarc DVD RW AD-75308 ATA Device drive. I have tried formatting of Sony DVD RW disc with Windows Vista OS itself (So as to use as a large floppy disk). But it is taking too long and finally not completing the task. I have wasted a few DVDs also (After several trials of formatting, the DVD is becoming useless). I have Nero-7 but there is no InCD facility so as to format the DVD. Please offer me a solution at the earliest.

    I have already connected the DVD RW but it is not working

    Just a few seconds before the termination of a long formatting procedure I get a hated message "Windows cannot format". No reason, no help offer nothing, just pay a hell of a lot of money for Vista and then cut your neck.

    I am sure no solution will ever come. Who knows how many users have the same problem but they give up mjust like me. To hell with formatting or buring.

Find out HOW MANY TIMES the DVD-RW disks are supposed to be able to be re-written, and if you have not exceeded that number (VERY doubtful!), then contact the vendor for FREE REPLACEMENTS!

SOURCE: driver

Hello,

Is this a windows XP or Vista unit? You are getting that because either the driver is still not installed or you have installed an incompatible driver for your CDROM.

This is the problem with optiarc drives. I suggest you buy an original Sony drive the next time. Hope the problem is mainly with CDs.

Did this just happen recently? Have you recently installed a new software in your computer? because sometimes when you installed a new software that is not compatible with the software installed in your computer conflict may arise and malfunction may follow but no worries there are a lot of trouble shooting steps you can do to fix this issue, you can either do system restore or delete the upper and lower filter in your computer.

To delete upper and lower filter follow the steps below:

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone

I hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using FixYa!

Your Feedback is greatly appreciated.

make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or the drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard or you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device Click start control panel administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver,roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer

Purchase a new (or used) disk-drive that is compatible with your Acer notebook.
Remove the current disk-drive, and set it aside.
Connect this "alternate" disk-drive, and install Windows onto it.
Then, test the CD/DVD drive -- if it still gives problems, then you have a "hardware" problem with the CD/DVD drive, and trying to make any "configuration" changes within Windows will have *NO* effect.

Optiarc DVD+-RW AD-5540A decoder

If you are using windows with anything less than windows vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate, DVD capabilities are not built in. For example if you using windows XP or vista home basic DVD will not play. You need a decoder. You have a few options. 1. Buy a decoder pack. 2. Download a DVD player software like cyberlink trial version, install it and check how it is functioning for a few days. Buy and install a DVD player software. However, if you upgraded your compuer recently by adding a DVD drive, you may have recieved a Driver CD disk. Check that disk. check whether a trial version of any DVD player software is included. Most chances are there will be one. Once you got everything fine you can call the customer support for the DVD player software and if you are willing to pay, they will provided you with a key or serial number that will change the status of trial version to a fully working version.

You will have to uninstall the drive and reinstall again. I think the drivers for the drive is not properly installed. But if all this does not work, then I think you will have to do a system restore.
