Re: security

Till the time you put a access code for the wireles it would show it as a unsecure connection. You can change this by accessing the router page.Just type in the address bar of internet explorer.Than it would ask you for username and password. Its ussually admin and the password field blank.Than go to wireless settings and the security to WEP.than you can put a password of either 5 or 10 digits.U can put your phone # which would be easy to remember and than just save the setting.Next time when you would try to connet to it than it would ask you to put the access code and will show up as secure connection.
I hope that helps

Want to put lock on guest

Linksys E series routers can broadcast 2 wireless networks. First one is the main wireless network which is secured wireless network.
The second network is a guest network which will always show you unsecured.
It will never show you secured and you can not make it secured.
However it has a web based security.
Anyone can connect to the guest network but will not be able to access Internet without Guest access password.
In other words there is a security.
You can disable guest access also.

My Router works only if I do not put security password on it.

The router works only if the network is unsecured.
When you secure the wireless network , make sure that you will change the wireless network name also. Because if you change the wireless security and if you keep the same network name then your computer will try to connect to the same network name with the old unsecured settings saved on the computer.
Try to change the SSID ( network name ) and security to WPA, check if that works.
If that doesn't work then I believe you will need to upgrade the FIRMWARE of the router.

Unable to encrypt router

you have to check if you have the wep key enabled. when you put in the wep key, it should also be enabled so that your wireless network should say security-enabled wireless network. make sure to disconnect and connect again on your network after changing the settings to refresh your connection. hope this helps.

You didn't specify what router you are using and what type of connection. I assume you are using wireless connection from your laptop. What you need to do is setup security on your router. I can't give you any specifics because I don't know the model of your router. Please read documentation and try to go to wireless security on your router and setup 64-bit WEP then specify 10-digit code. Save your configuration. Try to connect your laptop to the network. If it prompts specify the same WEP security then enter the same 10-digit code. It should work.

Good luck!
