Try plugging it into the cigarette lighter in your car and go for a drive for about 5-10 minutes. Try entering your home address while you drive. I did this and finally got it to find a satellite and it is working great. Hope this helps.

Yes. Just got my wife our first GPS. Bought her the Garmin c340 and can"t get it to find a satellite. It still thinks it is in Kansas. I am going to try going out for a drive with it and enter the home address. I'll update if I can get it to work.

Yup. Got the same problem. It doesn't find satellites. It doesn't talk. I just got it as a gift. I've downloaded updates. I walked around with it to see if it acquires satellites. I don't think I will put up with this. It is too expensive to accept a built in defect. I think it is going back.

I had a similar problem with both units I bought. I got in the car with the 12v adapter plugged in. About 4 minutes into driving it located my car on the map, roughly. I live in a dense city neighborhood, and it would be off by a street or two. After a little while though it got it right.

OK. Took it out on the road and after about 20 mins and several re-inputs (4 or 5) of the home address, it now works. I did delete the home address each time before re-imputting it. Worked great after that!

My c340 stops at "locating satellites". I reset it

If your StreetPilot c300 or c500 series device is no longer acquiring satellites please read the article linked below to ensure that this is not being caused by something in your environment:

Why won't my unit acquire satellites?

If after reading the above article your unit is still having problems, please ensure that your unit's software is up to date. You can do this by using our WebUpdater® program.

If you have tried all of the above suggestions and your unit is still not acquiring satellites, you can perform a master reset by doing the following:

Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.
  1. Start with the unit powered OFF and unplugged from power.
  2. Touch and hold the bottom right corner of the touchscreen.
  3. Power the unit ON and continue pressing the screen until a new message displays, "Do You Really Want To Erase All User Data?".
  4. Touch Yes and go through the set up again.
Take the unit outside and let it set with a clear view of the sky for 3-5 minutes to acquire satellites. If the unit still does not acquire satellites after this, please contact Garmin Product Support.

Can't get out of Kansas location --- can't locate satellites

Have you taken it outside to see if it needs better skyview to get a lock. I also suggest force feeding it the firmware again. You can use Garmin Webupdater to update the unit. It would of updated when you did the map update install but a file may of been corrupted.

Hi, my name is Vince & i had that very same problem with my nuvi 200w, have you tried to update it on your pc ?, i updated mine after travelling down the motorway at 40 miles an hour thinking that their was road works after the sat nav told me. I also found that updating it seemed to increase the signal strength too, try it, it may solve your problem.

Abnormal Powerdown Error Code

Your battery is dead, which is causing the problem with "slow to receive satellites". Normally when you turn off the unit it will remember the last location and time, then the next time you start the unit it already has the time and current location to acquire satellites, but with a dead battery it has to start from scratch. Check the screen and see if it says "Locating Satellites" or "Acquiring Satellites". Locating satellites will take longer. Replace the battery and your problems should go away.

New Garmin 330 stuck on kansas

Take the unit outside and turn it on. Then select View Maps, at the top of the screen it will say either "Locating satellites" or "Acquiring Satellites". Once the garmin has locked onto the overhead satellites, then it will say "Ready to Navigate".

Locating Satellites take longer than Acquiring Satellites.

No signal

You will have to leave the unit out in the open so it can 'see' the satellites. It might need from 20-30 minutes to acclimatize itself to the new location. It is set at Kansas because that's where the manufacturer is, so that is the last recorded satellite signal.

Location says I'm in Kansas

I got stuck in Kansas also. But, now I'm not in Kansas anymore! Are you trying to set your Garmin up indoors? That was my first problem. Go outdoors and try it. I did that and Toto and I were still in Kansas. SO, I pluged it inot my cigarette lighter and drove down my driveway. It took a few minutes for Garmin to locate a satalite, but once it did I was all set. No problems since, hope it works for you. I really enjoy using my Garmin. I'm one who ofter ends up on the road less traveled so, Garmin has come to my rescue a few times already. Have fun and say hello to the Wizard of Oz for me!

TomTom has difficulties locating satellites.

Download the latest software tomtom home and do a gpsquickfix. THis will solve the problem and tell the unit where the satellites are for the next 7 days. May need to do gpsquickfix often.

GARMIN BASICS FOR THE ELECTRONICALLY CHALLENGED

first turn it on and let the unit acquire satellites to find your home state. Then you can set up your address as your "home location". When I first set it up, I was able to pick up the satellites in my bedroom (scary....)...everything worked just fine.

Trouble Acquiring Satellites

This can be easily fixed....
I had the same problem, I returned first piece and exchanged for the second. Had the same problem with second and took back to Circuit city. The GPS guys took out 3rd one for me and had same problem. Then the manager came who has been using these for couple of years and tried to set the home location 3 times and it worked 3rd time. He did the same for the second returned piece and it also worked. He says since these pieces are programmed for Kansas we need to give 3-4 tried before the piece first 'locates' satellite and then acquires satellite. After the the piece just turned out to be awesome.
