Did the receiver shut off, or did it remain powered up? If the unit overheats, it will shut down. They can also shut down if the volume is maxed out. Most times when this occurs you can power down and wait 5 minutes to power it back up.
What source was being used at the time it stopped transmitting sound? Have you tried to change sources?
Look into the TV's audio controls. If it was my setup, I'd NOT send audio through the TV to the hifi, nor video through the hifi to the TV. Additional hops and interconnects cause problems even though they're theoretically transparent.
I have had the same problem with my new Onkyo HT-S 5305B (A/V Receiver + 5.1 speakers). To solve this, try to follow "Troubleshooting" guide that came with your system. I followed it 2-3 times. In my final attempt, when system was not shutting down but stayed-n with no sound, I played with the setup and tried changing audio adjustment, input, dimension etc. and slowly I was able to get speakers up one after the other. It's working fine now.
However, I am little concerned that why such a high-class Onkyo system failed in less than two days, forcing me to troubleshoot. - Apurva
You have probably set the sleep timer. Here's how to switch it off: To cancel the sleep timer, press the SLEEP button until <OFF> appears on the display.
I've had the Samsung HT-TX52 for almost a year now, and just recently, after about 10 mintues it keeps shutting off. Its almost like new and hardly used, why is it doing this? There is no error message, it just shuts off. I've tried unplugging it for a day, taking out all my wires and reconnecting them perfectly, and it still does this robert
Protect mode will kick in whenever a fault is detected.
You get the unit not powering up, and sometimes you hear a clicking
noise, that is the protection switch that keeps shutting down the unit.
Causes that can start protect mode are:
Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.
Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.
Internal fault.
Internal
fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not
work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In
this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an
experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you
want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the
product documentation.
