Perhaps it does not say "instmsia" is missing, but instead "instmsi"?

MSI is a Microsoft Installer module native to newer MS operating system installers, not W98 or W98SE.

Regardless, your computer is definitely telling you that you lack some required resources that are mandatory to install the VMware software.

You should read the documentation carefully, especially "system requirements" because you are definitely missing something that is required to use the software. It may be any of the following:

OS: Perhaps the software you have is for Windows ME, 2000, XP or Vista -but not (your) Windows 98.

CPU/Processor Support: Perhaps you have a 64-bit version of software, rather than 32 bit. Your W98 and W98SE are 32 bit-only operating systems. 64-bit software will NOT run on W98x.

Other Software: Perhaps your version of VMware requires a specific DirectX, Java, or other software/version be installed FIRST. And some versions (many actually) will not run on W98x. MS consumer support was dropped for W98, meaning most new MS-software does not run on W98.

RAM/Video: You may not meet the minimum RAM requirements, or the minimum Videa/Display requirements.

I suspect it is the first cause, since VMware that I have used specifically requires W2K or above (and in fact, required the SERVER version of the OS). But that does not mean there is no W98-compatibility in other versions).

To determine what you lack, you will need to read the documentation that came with your software (specifically, "requirements") and/or consult the VMware website: www.vmware.com to find out what are the minimum requirements.

How or where do i get a windows 7 boot download to copy to disc to sort my omnibook xe3 out it currently has win98se installed but thirs allsorts missing.

Upgrade the memory and try win xp you'll see better performance. You can download win 7 from lots of places free.

It is the license that you have to purchase that people seem to be trying to find a get around for.

Just go to Microsoft website or search for win 7 iso

Good luck and thanks

How do I add windows 7 to a dell xps 8700 that came with windows 8.1 using a separate hard drive? Is it possible?

No, it isn't possible doing it the way you want to. You can't have 2 operating systems running at the same time. When you start win 8.1, that OS is running, and installing Win 7 on an external SSD won't work while Win 8.1 is running. You can install VirtualBox for free and create a virtual machine to run Win 7 inside of Win 8. You can do the same with the free VMWare Player. You can also shell out some money for VMWare Workstation and create virtual machines that way. Another option is to create a dual boot machine on your Win 8.1 machine. That is out of the scope of this message right now. There are lots of tutorials on the web.

What you need is bootable DVD/CD for installing or repairing Windows 7 to get missing 'bootmgr' or repair corrupted bootmgr...If there are files corrupt on your CD, you can get new one from shop you have purchased..Maybe just need to clean up your DVD/CD, so your DVD drives can read properly the files installation..

I have window 7 on isprition 15 but the umax astraq5600 scanner does not support

The only available driver for the umax astraq5000 scanner are Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP. But If you really wanted to use your printer on windows 7 you can use a program like xp virtual machine or VMware. Just install this program and then install windows xp in your VMware and install your scanner. Download the VMware software from this link. Click the download latest version link and download it. Have a nice day.

Will not let me see videos on Youtube becaause of flash player not installed When i installed it it said You need a newer version of windows.

What version of Window do you have ?
Win 98, Win 98se, Windows 2000 don't have newer program written for them. Most programs only support XP / Vista. If you have flash Ver. 6 and YouTube requires Ver. 8 or above. You're out of luck. I've had to dump all my Win98/ Win 2000 PC because of that problem in my school. Web is all Flash/ Shockwave anymore.

Why would you torture yourself with that old thing?  Yeah, you can create more boot script lines...they should designate the proper root for the second volume and that ought to fix any missing file issues if indeed ICG32.dll and company are where they started....

How do I transfer files from Windows 98se to Vista on my new computer

If you have a CD/DVD writer, you can write the files to a CD-R. If this is not an option, take out the HDD from he Win 98se machine and install it in the vista machine, if you have room. you might need to disconnect your CD/DVD drive in your vista machine to free up the EIDE ribbon cable.

option 3:
Win 98se can do USB, but not very well. And drivers are hard to come by for usb flash drives. Vista/XP/ win 2000 can handle them without needing a driver disk. Therefore you will need a new OS for the win 98se machine. How about linux, it can handle usb flash drives very well. My advice use Ubuntu linux, you don't need to install it, just get a boot CD. it boots the OS from the CD, does not install or format anything. Use that OS to copy the necessary files to the flash drive. This option requires you to have a cd burner or access to one, so not really saving any time.

http://www.ubuntu.com/

You did not give ne a lot of information about your setup. Like do you have a cd/dvd burner, any usb ports, any spare HDD, any external media storage. Do you have any burning software like nero. So pick which option that is viable.

You can also take your computer to best buy and have them back up the data on a CD/DVD disc for a price. Best Buy is not the only shop that does this type of service, check in your area.
