When it is in that state, try hooking it up to an external display. Also look for a extremely faint image on the screen. If it's really faint you have a bad back light, if you see nothing but you get a display on an external monitor it's probably the display going bad.
When this happened was the laptop overly hot? If the laptop's head got too high it could have shutdown to protect itself. It wouldn't boot until the heat had disparate. Sit you laptop aside for about 30 minutes and see if it will boot then. If it does you might want to check out a cool mat.
Does it boot up? Are you able to use it after 5 minutes? What does the
flashing look like? Is it flashing the boot up posting processes?
Have you tried booting up in Safe Mode and see if it flashes for 5 minutes?

Have you checked the connections from MB to LCD screen have you tried hooking it up to a second monitor it should have a connector on back of laptop for that so you could at least see post. If it beeps and no screen maybe memory sticks to check, also do you have a harddrive or maybe even a usb drive to try it with? If hard drive failed it should say that or no operating system when booting up.
