I have a dell inspiron 1525 laptop and three partitions with one containing xp sp2 and the second containing windows 7 evaluation copy. the problem is that i want to reinstall a copy of either windows, however after the setup files are loaded in the boot mode, i get an error saying:
no hard drive was detected on your system, setup will now exit, press F3.
Someone told me that installing a sata driver would solve the problem.
but i'm not getting it right.
please give ur suggestions and possible solution....

I you have a bios level password enabled and do not know the password, then you will have to contact Dell Technical Support to get a MASTER PASSWORD to disable it. There is no hardware path on a Dell portable (Aside from replacing the motherboard) to get around the password. To resolve:

1. Contact Dell Tech Support (80-624-9896 USA)
2. Validate that you are an authorized user of the system
3. Once done, TS will generate a master password for you.
