I agree with cra1901. An alternative way of changing the layout is: right clicking on your taskbar and select "language bar". When this is done, right click on the keyboard symbol and select "settings". Change the default language (to UK) and your keyboard should type correctly.

The laptop will be set up for American layout probably. Go to Control Panel and select Regional and Language Options. Go through the menu's and change everything to UK settings. That's asuming you are from the UK!

Back key came off how to fix

If the key is not broken and the clips are intact, posistion the key over the shaft, now gently push down until you hear a click, if that fails! go to www.ebay.com Type: make and model of laptop, refine search to keyboard and key replacement, some makes like Toshiba offer key placement alternatives.

HP G62 laptop the "a"

You can pull the key from the keyboard by wiggling it back and forth and pulling gently, like a loose tooth. One it's out, you can position the key back onto the spot where it belongs and then push it on. It may take a few tries, but as long as the connector isn't broken, you should be able to get it back on.

Replacing individual keys on some laptops can be a real problem, including finding just the one key you need. On toshiba's if the key has come off it's often because it has broken off, not just popped off. Also because you say the key un-jams when pushing another key it seems there may well be more than just the one key not functioning properly. From what you've described it does sound like you'll need a new keyboard.

I need the WEP key code to setup a new laptop

Hi, IF you want to get the WEP key for the wireless for the new laptop, you need to access the computer that is currently connected to it. then you need to co go command prompt by click on start > type in the start search box > cmd > then command prompt will come up > now you need to type 'ipconfig' and you need to get the numbers for default gateway. Next is you need to open Internet Explorer, then type in the default gateway on the address box. And you will be shown the interface of the router. Just look for the Wireless settings then security and you should be able to get the WEP key you're looking for.
Thank you for using FIxya. Your recommendation is highly appreciated for the free support.

Either you are pressing the HOME key on the keyboard - it should fall somewhere under your right ring and little fingers - or the HOME key is defective, i.e., stays half-way pressed. Check it if it "feels" different. If it does, Dell keys may be removed by GENTLY lifting them with a fingernail from the bottom and twisting them upwards. Ensure there's no grit, dust, or hair under the key, and verify that the little pod below the key feels right (if it doesn't, the keyboard will have to be replaced. You can find instructions on Dell support site, and a brand new 1525 keyboard should set you back around US$ 15 on eBay). To put the key back in place, position it where it should stay and push it down firmly, first on the top then on the bottom, until it clicks.

If your problem is typing on the HOME key by mistake (or maybe the Ctrl-H key or some other, depending on your word processing software), maybe you can have benefit from one of the many freeware programs known as "keyboard remappers". Just remap the HOME key to something harmless (e.g. shift) when starting the word processing session and remap it back once you're finished.

How to replace keys on laptop

By using a butter knife or something similar, put knife under one of the corners of the key to be removed, carefully pry up on the key, the key will "pop" up and away from the laptop. The key is held in place by 2 clips on the under side of it. When replacing with a new one, just take new key and push down until both clips engages on the edges of the new key.
