I have the sound but cant get the picture on screen,is this a common problem?

Hello
You haven't either given its Brand name or its Model number. Anyway, as it is an LCD TV, this is common fault to all brands. Check its backlight CCFL tubes, and the backlight inverter board.
Actually there is picture, but you cant see it as there is no backlight. OK.

Turn off the lights in the room and turn your tv on.

If the tv screen is completely dark, and does not have that normal tv glow even without a picture, then it is likely a BACKLIGHT problem.

Shine a flashlight very close to the screen and you may be able to glimpse the tv picture playing very dimly on the screen.

Most likely you have some BULGING / LEAKING ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORS (BAD) on your power supply circuit board, which are not overly difficult to replace yourself if you are the least bit handy with a screwdriver and soldering iron.

Another common defect is blown SURFACE MOUNTED FUSES on the inverter circuit board which can be checked with a multimeter.

Another less common problem is the backlight bulb itself may be bad which unfortunately is more difficult to replace yourself.

If you don't want to investigate / work on it yourself, then you will have to bring it in to the shop. They will probably be able to fix it for less than $150.

Order a new TV....thats what I have to do. I have the Protron 42", and I cant get any sound, and I cant get the remote to work. Figures, too.....the TV JUST passed its warranty period by 4 days! I havent seen any positive things said about this company, either.
