Toshiba 43A61 Projection TV No picture, no sound

I just got this tv from a friend that moved so I don't know the whole story right now. Anyways, when you turn it on, there isn't a picture or sound. The red power light comes on and that is it. I did find a burnt fuse (1.5amp) and replaced it, but no change. Any help on where to look would be great.

Ok, the fuse I replaced was F470 and it was 1.25amp not 1.5amp. I also found one micro fuse, checked it and it was good. What I need is some info on checking the test points and values or a link to the info. Thanks.

Two things to check on these when you get a black screen and only the power light, either a bad bulb or a bad fan. You can check the bulb, pull it out and get a meter and check for continuity across the two pins on the bulb, no continuity the bulb is blown. Also once you have the bulb out you will see the cooling fan in there, a vacuum and a air compressor to blow it out good is helpful. Check the bulb, clean it well, and try again. The blown fuse could also have been due to a stuck fan or blown bulb, i have seen the bulb blow and take out the fuse before on projection TV's, i have also seen cooling fans so full of dust and crud that they are stuck and drawing more amperage then they should and popping the fuse. I assume the 1.5a fuse that blew was on the mainboard inside? Some have an external fuse near the power cord input as well, but thats generally more then 1.5a.

SOURCE: Toshiba TN43V71 43 in rear projection

Hello WendyOreo,

It sounds like your switching power supply or you High Voltage power supply has malfunctioned. These sections control all power to the TV and can produce the situation you are describing. If you do not have a background in electronics, I would suggest that you have a TV repairperson come over and check your TV out.

I say this because there are voltages in a TV set that can kill, so caution is needed.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

Shuttle83

If your set all of a sudden won't come on, e.g., the screen is blank, but the LED on the under the screen next to the on/off switch keeps flashing, then there may be an internal fault on the set that needs to be reset.
To force the reset, try this:

  • Unplug the set and wait a few seconds
  • Replug and see if the video returns
Whenever the set senses an internal fault through its monitoring circuitry, it essentially shuts down the set. The flashing LED provides the indication that a fault has been detected. Removing power to the set resets the monitoring circuitry. When plugged back in, the circuitry again does a check of the system. If it finds that there truly is a problem, then the set is shut down and the LED will again flash. In this case, you need to call a service tech. Most of the time, however, the unplug/replug routine is enough to get the set up and running.

SOURCE: toshiba TP43H95 projection tv has power but no picture

If it shuts off and then the power light starts blinking red or it never comes on but the power light just blinks red continuously that is usually indicative of the convergence ICs (STK 392-110). You never want to replace the ICs without also replacing the resistors that are associated with them. There are usually 6 resistors, one for each of the colors and there corresponding direction, IE Red horizontal, red vertical, blue horizontal, ect. In the case of this model tv all of the resistors are 2.2 Ohm and 2watts. You will find them right where the STK 392-110 ICs are. Right in front of them. They are blue and have this color code on them. Red, red, gold, gold. These are represented by stripes on the resistors. You can get the parts from www.bdent.com They carry the ICs and the resistors. If you do not feel comfortable completing this repair I could do it for you if you send me the board. My email address is: missionelectronics@sbcglobal.net The cost is 375.00 and that includes parts.
Good Luck.

Your set has a convergence problem which is a common issue.

Take a look at this solution posted earlier on Fixya. It worked for me.
