You evidently have a BIOS based password. If you dont know it - whose computer is this anyway??? - you must clear that password. Best way I know to do that is remove the BIOS battery.

to find the battery, turn your lap top over ... start removing the covers with screws on them. You will find a hard drive in one and memory in the other ... Id be inclined to look under the memory for a tiny battery probably looks like a watch battery with a slip of plastic over it and a pair of wires attrached to the battery on one end and a little red, white or black plug on the other. Gently unplug it. Go get a glass of water ... drink it and come back ... plug it back in ... replace the covers. Give it a try

Just for the heck of it if you have the option of changing who logs onto the computer type in Administrator with a capital A and no password and it should log you in. Unless whoever set up the computer set an administrative password.
