Card setup error

I accidently pressed something on my camera which made it start formatting my card. I turned it off so it would stop, but now everytime i turn the camera on it says card setup power off/format. If i turn it off the same screen comes up when i turn it back on. If i format it it says it will wipe my memory card (these are my holiday photos). Ive tried reading the card on a computer but it says i need to format it as well. Any solutions or are the photos gone?

Re: card setup error

I have had this problem to and I got all of my pictures back! Just go to . This site goes into your camera card gets the pictures out and puts them on your computer. Then you can go ahead and format your card like your camera wants you to! It will erase the pics off your camera but they will all be saved to your computer, which is what you would end up doing in the first place! Hope this helps!

Re: card setup error

Sorry to say.. but u must not have stopped the format in middle.. this will not only lead to los of photos but also can affect the memory card as well..
but now there s no way to get the photos back... but u must format the memory card again in o\your camera to use it properly again.. see to that you dont press that button again.. to avoid this first get familiar with operations of your camera so that u dont repeat it again

Re: card setup error

The first link is to software for recovery of deleted photos, free.

The second is a paid link, but guarantees the recovery or your money back. So try the first one, and if it doesn't work try the second.

I have a xd picture card H512mb and it has stopped working - an error message saying 'card is not innitialised' comes up on camera screen. Is this fixable?

If formatting the card doesn't help, the card is probably defective.
To format press Menu/OK / Setup / Format / OK.
Formatting will delete the card.

Why My kodak dc280 can not read the memory card?

Try formatting your camera memory card If you own camera memory cards that have been used in other digital cameras, the card may not be properly formatted for use in your camera, or that data on the card may become corrupted. When these issues arise, your camera indicates that the camera memory card needs to be formatted.
When you format a camera memory card, all of the information on the card is erased. This includes any borders supplied on the card.
  1. Set the Mode dial to Camera Setup.
  2. Slide the POWER switch to the right to turn on the camera. The main Camera Setup screen appears.
  3. Press a updown_icon.gif button until the format_icon.gif icon is highlighted. format.gif
  4. Press the DO-IT button. The Format Memory Card screen appears.
  5. Press a updown_icon.gif button until CONTINUE FORMAT is highlighted.
  6. Press the DO-IT button to format the camera memory card and return to the main Camera Setup screen.

Write Protect Error Message

Sounds like you will need to format the memory card. This will permanently erase all the data from the card and then you will be able to use it again. To format the card: Press the Menu button - right arrow to Setup- right arrow to format option. You will see format yes or no. Choose Yes and press ok. This will clear the write protect message and the card can be used again.

However if you need to save these images first: As long as the xD card was not formatted it is possible to recover the images that were accidently erased, lost or corrupted. You can go to the following website link and download an image recovery software program that is free of charge.
You want to download a program called Zero Assumption Recovery. It is a very simple program to use and many people have had much success in recovering lost images.

Data recovery is a booming industry, and many appropriate services and software can be found by searching regional phone and business directories or the Internet for terms such as "image recovery" or "data recovery".

Card Error

Are you getting this error with the card?

If so, insert the card into the computer. Make sure you get all the files off before you continue. Then go to my computer, right click on the drive, click properties, click the tools tab and click check now. Just do Automatically fix file system errors and click start. This should successfully find errors if present on the card and fix it. You may lose a picture or two if you don't transfer all of them first. Or you could format the card by right clicking on the card drive and clicking format.

If you get the error on the camera without the card in it, turn it on and click mode button twice to get to the picture display (it should be a black screen with "memory error" on top). Then press menu and use the 4-way button to go to the right for Setup. Then use the 4-way button to go down to format to format the camera.

This should fix it.

Does not read memory card

Casio only tested 3 cards with the camera. Sandisc, Toshiba, Panasonic. First: Format the internal memory of camera and then reset camera. In rec mode press menu go to setup tab go up to format press right arrow highlight format press set. Follow same steps for resetting. Then insert mem card and format mem card. If that still doesn't work I would say there is something wrong with the camera itself and would need to be sent in.
