Hello ! you can try doing the following:

1. Please ensure that the printer is directly connected to wall outlet.

2. Print a configuration page and check the firmware datecode. If possible update printer firmware and check if the issue occurs.

3. If the issue occurs, please perform a restore factory defaults. Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the settings to the factory defaults, and it also clears the fax header name and phone number.

a. On the product control panel, press Setup .
b. Use the arrow buttons to select Service, and then press OK.
c. Use the arrow buttons to select Restore defaults, and then press OK. The product automatically restarts.

4. If the issue still persists, perform a NVRAM initialization. An NVRAM initialization will return the following device settings to the factory-set defaults:

a. Turn off the product.
b. Press and hold both the down arrow button and the Cancel button, and then turn on the product.
c. Wait until the message Permanent storage init. appears, and then release the buttons. When the NVRAM initialization process finishes, the product control panel shows the Ready message.

Try the following: got to the menu (the wrench) and with the arrows look for service, press ok and look for restore defaults. After that unplug the fax line (this is very important). Go to the hp website and download the firmware update and run it (while updating dont to anything to the printer, no print, copy, fax.) when that is completed try to fax again this should resolve it. If not I recomend to contact a service center, it could be the formatter (the motherboard)
