Strip the system down to bare minimum, 1 stick of ram, no pci cards and one graphix card, or integrated graphix if available. attach a speaker to the mobo speaker leads and listen for beeps, if there are no beeps, then the problem is the processor (or, possibly, the power supply). if there are beeps, you can look up the beep code on the mobo's manufacturers' website.

also, ensure that your power supply is sufficcient for your cpu/graphix card. if it is a multi-rail power supply, it may have enuf overall power, but not enuf power to one particular rail.

Turn it off. Remove the AC power-cord.
Disconnect all the devices (floppy, disk-drive, CD-drive).
Remove any add-on PCI cards (modem, network, TV, 2nd video).
Remove ALL the RAM.
Reconnect the power, and turn it on.
Try to POST -- if it is not "dead", it should "beep" a few times, due to having _NO_ RAM installed.
Turn it off.
Remove the AC power-cord.
Add ONE stick of RAM.
Connect the AC power-cord.
Turn it on.
Same "beeps"? Different? No beeps?

Need mounting instructions and template

The first thing to do is to determine which mounting posts should be installed into the case Locate the holes in the motherboard, and hold the motherboard over the case and see which of the predrilled holes line up. Screw in or snap in the posts/holders in those holes. Remove any posts/holders where they do not line up to the holes in the motherboard; they will cause shorts and damage/destroy the motherboard. Snap in the template into the rectangular hole, and insert the motherboard into the case. Screw in the screws. Do not overtighten!! Connect the cables, and you are done. (This assumes the memory, processor, and cooler were preinstalled on the motherboard)

How to acsess the boot device menu at post on abit il8 motherboard

.Abit did not add the BIOS post to the manual.

Watch the BIOS post, most all motherboards have the hot-key menu at BIOS post.

If for some reason the hot-key is not reported on BIOS post, then you hit the DELETE key and enter the BIOS, Advanced BIOS Features Setup Menu and set what hardware you want to boot first, under Hard Disk Boot Priority, set First Boot Device

What do the red diodes D1 - D4 mean?

I do not see anything in the manual about LEDs for D1-D4
Super Micro Computer Inc Products Motherboards Xeon Boards X5DP8 G2 .

However if the motherboard is not posting it could be the RAM. One continuous long beep means that there is no memory detected (D1-D4 may refer to the dimm slots 1-4). You can try booting off of a single stick of RAM, and try different dimm slots to get the motherboard to post.
