click on start and then RIGHT click on computer then click on manage
click on device manager in the top left window and a list of devices will appear in the top right.
Plug your magellan roadmnate into the usb port and the top right window will refresh. See if you can see a device that says unkown device check also under usb controllers by clicking with the lefvt mouse button on the + sign to the left of the words usb controllers. If you see unknown device or anything with a yellow exclamation mark , right click on it and click uninstall. when you have uninstalled the problem hardware restart the pc and unplug the device BEFORE windows starts. When you are back up and running plug the Roadmate back into the computer and hopefully windows will install the device correctly
I have an extra unit. I don't have the magellan road mate manager. I would be willing to trade the whole unit if you could get me the magellan road mate manager cd. I hear there is another one that comes with it that would be great to have also. I have tried everything to get these cds but to no avail. comment here or email me at email@example.com if you are willing to do this.
same problem with me--only i ordered their $80 cd thinking it would have the drivers. but it didnt' work. magellan customer service has never repsoned to me--so i thougth i would try the cd. their customer service is terrible. i'm just going to go back to costco and buy a different gps.
I had the same problem caused by reformatting the internal memory and this is what I did which worked for me:
Make sure you remove any SD memory cards before trying this fix.
First: find the base maps (NA_BSMAP.mgi and NA_BSMAP.nlt)maps which are located in your computer in the Magellan Roadmate Manager (C:\ProgramFiles\Magellan\Magellan RoadMate Manager NA\Map\Basemaps)
Second: Connect your Roadmate with the USB cable to your computer.
Third: Plug in USB and power up your GPS. Cut and paste the two files mentioned above to your GPS (Devices with Removable Storage (example E:/). They are approximately 25 MB in size and will take a few minutes to copy.
Fourth: Unplug the USB cable and shut power off to the GPS.
Fifth: Power up the GPS and it should find the "base maps".
I had the same problem and solved it by plugging the USB cable into the device, powered it up, went into the "Magellan Roadmate Manager", clicked on "Settings" and then clicked on "Voice Options" and my sound came back.
Won't say that it will work for you, but it did for me. Worth a try!
I think the problem is with the internal power jack which tends to break. the part is MG361213 and is available at laptopjacks.com. You have to take the Unit apart and remove the old jack and resolder the new one which is a three pin unit.
You'll have to obtain a copy of the Magellan Roadmate manager disks, load them into your computer, connect the GPS to your computer using the USB cable and the use the "Roadmate Manger settings" to change the language.
