My daughter just bought a Samsung s630 camera, with batteries included. She took a couple pictures, and then when she tried to take another one, it just shut off. Now it will take a few pictures, then do the same thing. The battery icon shows 2/3 full, but it will beep 3 times when it shuts off. Is this camera a piece of junk?

I have the Samsung S630 and absolutely love it. Unfortunately, while I
was on a trip and taking pictures, the camera just gave three beeps and
shut off. The lens remained open though. Now, if I turn it on, the
screen comes on, but the picture is out of focus. It stays on for about
five seconds before it once again gives the three beeps and shuts off.
However, the lens STILL won't close. Someone please help me... I love
    this camera!

I am Judy Malone in Tenn and I had my camera all in box and ready to mail back to place listed on camera box. I had worked on camera for last few days and to no avail. I got the notice via email today and the usual steps that I've read before.
To take batteries out, insert again. And to hold the ON button to keep camera powered. Then press Center button OK and press RIGHT 3 times to Setup2...
Well, I could not get my camera to co-operate past the Press Right 3 times to setup 2. Only the usual screen with a few of the icons showing my battery had power. It would not do anything past this.
Well, I got mad...(smile) and figured something had to be wrong as it kept showing a 32 for picts and I knew I had taken 414 at least on my Lexar 512 MB (SD).
I thought something must not be aleigned properly..some pins inside or somthing, so I GENTLE tapped the camera against my kitchen table... First one side, then the other..and GUESS WHAT. My camera came to life and has been working fine since. I HOPE this is a permanent I love the camera and have said so.
So, for what it's worth...try this if everything else seems to fail...but please do it gently. And start from the beginning.
Take batteries out, then reinsert...and GOOD LUCK.
I will post again...and let you know if this continues to work.
I am amazed.

The camera is still working just great and with same batteries.

I do think turning off all the sounds and un-necessary stuff and getting it to the very basic camera has made a huge difference.

I have it set to 1 MG and I do very little zooming in and out and I do let the camera turn itself off rather than use more energy to turn off/on all the time. The batteries I am using are the very basic Energizer. I do think if I try the recharged batteries again, I will take careful note of the settings in camera. Since my camera works so good now, I am almost afraid to change to rechargeable again.

I do hope everyone has as much good luck with this camera as I have. I hope to never hear the 'bling' and 3 beeps again!!

For what it's worth, this is Judy again to say that the Samsung is still working great and today is March 2th. I thought my fixing it--by tapping it on table--might have been a fluke, but it really has solved the bling, 3 beeps, not opening lens and the black screen.

If it stops working later, I will post and say so.

I do think the lens easily can get stuck or out of alignment and just pushing them slighty from side to side or the tapping does make camera work. (At least in my case.)

The beeping is the battery being dead but the black screen with random stuff sounds like the LCD panel is busted. i work at a repair shop and have the same problem with my samsung s630 major problem...lcd panel is not available anylonger for that model.

I purchased a samsung ES70 compact digital camera last year and lately a black line has appeared across the bottom of the screen, could I get rid of it or would i have to purchase a new camera?

If the line is only on the display and not also on the photos when you download them to the pc, then you only need to have the LCD display replaced. The screen should cost like ~$20 as you can see here:

Samsung S630 camera says "low battery" then shuts off

This camera needs rechargeable batteries usually lasts about a week with much use. I thought what a waste of batteries then tried these rechargable and the situation hasn't occured . it is probably because it is small digtal camera which uses alot of power.

Samsung S630 camera says "low battery" then shuts off

You might want to try cleaning the battery contacts in the camera. I usually use a q-tip and rubbing alcohol (not too much, just moisten the tip a little). After doing so, blow in to the camera a couple of times to remove any leftover q-tip fibers and/or alcohol. This happens to me all of the time - the contacts can get a little corrosion/patina on them (even new after manufacturing and storage) that is hardly visible. Good luck.

It was suggested that you remove the batteries and memory card for about ten minutes, then replace. It worked for mine, and works great now.

Is your LCD turned off (for power savings) under preferences? That is the only thing I can think of besides a hardware malfunction.
