Re: always freeze

My iBook freezes everytime also. Used to boot only to blue screen, removed Aircard and RAM module, now almost always boots to OSX, but locks up after a few minutes of use. Try this... boot and hold down Command+S keys, to boot into command line mode. Leave it for a while. If it eventually crashes in command line mode, you can rule out OS problems, as it will probably be hardware. That is what mine does. It does run much longer in command line mode, but will crash eventually. I hate my iBook.

Re: always freeze

Firefox will use a lot of disk space over time for temporary use. You might try starting up and run the Disk Utilities program to repair disk permissions.

The pointer jumping on the screen sounds like you may have picked up a virus. While rare, there are mac viruses. I would try to save all my data documents and any other valuable personal files or lists, then do a clean reinstall of the operating system. Then load our documents back in.
You could try to scan for a virus with a mac virus program, but not many are available for a G4 Power PC (PPC) machine.

Not sure what is going on with safari but what I would suggest is reseating your RAM on your ibook, it may have come loose. to do this have a look at it is fairly easy to do. You will at the same time as reseating the RAM you will have to remove the airport card and replace it in the same slot, this may sort the safari problem. Have you tried using another browser such as firefox. Hope this helps in some way.

I recently got a ibook g4 from someone that said the os kept freezing at the startup. I tried reinstalling from the install disk that came with it. It get to the end of the first disk then says there was...

Your hard drive is failing or has some bad sectors. You can get HDD Regenerator software and run it and it most of the time will regenerate the bad sectors causing problems such as yours. If that doesn't work then your hard drive is failing. Also the install disc may be corrupt/scratched causing the error as well. The OS freezing at startup also indicates the hard drive is bad.

My iBook G4 continues to run slowly and/or freeze

Try resetting the PRAM by turning on the iBook then holding option + command + P + R and wait till u hear another chime. If it still freezes, it may indicate an application may be causing it to lock up hold shift after you hear the chime to boot OS X into safe boot.

Ibook g4 freez

Freezing is a HD problem. Do you hear clicking sometimes? Sometimes on boot up is there a foler with a questionmark in it? I would get your hard drive looked at, this is the reason disc utility fails. Your hard drive has a hiccup.

No luck

Probably the dvd drive is damaged (boot the computer with a bootable cd and see if it works, if not, change the drive), or it might have weak connection in it's slot, remove it and reinsert it in the laptop, see if it works.
