Question about JVC GR-D70EK Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Unable to record

The camera has not been used that much but used to work OK. Now, it is not possible to record - the screen looks black but does pick up light when directed straight at a source, this is displayed as a white band across the screen and there is no resolution.

The camera plays back the black background and white bands as described above - it does shoe "lens cap" at the start of recording but this goes after a few seconds.

I would be most grateful for any assistance

    My problem sounds virtually the same - black screen, occasional bars of light and often get remove lens cap message when already removed.

    Have seen Kstahly response which makes sense, but I am in UK not US so really could do with a UK number to chase this up, trying to find any useful number on the JVC UK site seems to be a futile exercise

Apparently this same problem exists on many different models. I have a JVC grd72u. I called JVC @ 800-252-5722. I selected the "Corrective Action Program" prompt from the automated attendent. I spoke to a customer service rep. They are aware of the problem and are fixing it for free, but only until 12/31/07. I suggest you call ASAP and get your name in the computer. If the problem is something besides the CCD sensor, they will call you with the estimate to repair.

canon has released a service advisory for this condition, its a bad ccd connection, and is offering to fix at no charge. contact canon in your country for details

Black LCD screen but Lens view & record fine


It is possible you have turned the LCD screen off - Go to the settings in the camera and reselct the LCD Screen on.

first check the iris of the camera if it is opening,you will see this when you look inside the lens of the camera when you turn on and off the switch at camera mode if the iris is opening....if the iris is ok the second problem may occurs of your camera is the ccd image sensor....

No live view or black pictures, but readable menus means a bad CCD or less likely, possible shutter on cameras equipped with one (more scarce on newer digitals)

your lcd is a touch screen so if it is cracked ? you will not be able to control the camera ' s functions , from there - go to sony website for latest software updates ( and nearest service center , if lcd is damaged ) ;

Black screen picks up only bright lights


if it is only recording bright light sources then it must be working fine outdoors in broad day light. if so, it means the auto iris of your camera has stucked to minimum opening. was the camera lying idle for long time. try pointing the camera towards low light and bright light with quick moves.some times by doing so it gives a little jerk to the mechanism and it starts working, or lightly patting the camera on the lense side may solve the problem. otherwise let the repaires earn some money.
