- Introduction Use the following instructions to install the product software on a computer that is running Windows 98 SE, Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows XP (32-bit only). CAUTION: Set up and turn on the product before installing the printing-system software. Do not connect the product to the computer until the software installation program prompts you to do so or until the files have been copied to the computer. Installing the printer software NOTE: You must have administrator privileges to install the printing-system software on Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

1. Close all of the programs that are open on the computer.
2. Insert the HP LaserJet series printing-system software CD into the CD-ROM drive. NOTE: If your CD does not start automatically, click Start , click Run , and then browse to and double-click the SETUP.EXE file in the root directory of the CD.
3. Click Next on the Welcome Screen to begin the installation process.
4. Click Yes on the HP Software License Agreement screen.
5. Highlight the appropriate HP LaserJet series printer on the Model screen. Click Next to go to the Start Copying Files screen.
6. Verify the settings and click Next to begin copying system files.
7. After the files have been copied, plug in the USB cable. The New Hardware Wizard will detect the printer and complete the installation. NOTE: During the installation process, the status bar refreshes several times.
8. On the Setup Complete screen, the Register LaserJet 10xx series Online and Print Test Page check boxes are selected by default.
   • Clicking Finish with the Register LaserJet 10xx series Online check box selected closes the Install wizard, opens your Web browser, and then takes you to the HP Web Registration Web site. Enter the appropriate information.
   • Clicking Finish with the Print Test Page check box selected closes the Install wizard and prints a test page.
   • Clearing both check boxes and clicking Finish closes the Install wizard.
9. If you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes

Introduction This document will help download and install software for the printer. For additional instructions, see the document, Software Installation and Supported Operating System Information ( c00313299 ) Software and updates for many HP products are available at www.hp.com . Select download drivers from the HP main page, then enter the product model when prompted. Downloading and installing the software NOTE: Before proceeding with the software installation, the printer must first be properly set up, connected to the computer using a USB cable, and the computer must be ready to print. To download the software, follow the steps below:

1. Turn on the printer first, then turn on the computer.
2. Close any screen savers, virus protection programs, or other software programs running on the computer other than the browser.
3. Browse to the software download page using the instructions in the introduction section above.
4. Click on download and a File Download box will appear.
5. Select Save This Program to Disk and a Save As box will appear.
6. Select a directory to save the file and click Save (or use the default path).
7. Locate the file using Windows Explorer when the download has completed.
8. Double click on the file. This will extract all the driver files into a directory on your hard drive. The directory these files are extracted to will have a similar name to the printer model that was downloaded (i.e., c:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\LaserJet 1020-1022 Drivers). However, you can change the path and directory name at the time of extracting the file.
9. Open the Printers Window by clicking Start , Settings , Printers .
10. If the printer was previously installed follow the steps below, otherwise proceed to step 11.
    1. Right click on the printer and select Properties from the pop menu.
    2. On the General tab, select New Driver .
    3. Click on the Warning Box that pops up.
    4. A printer listing box will appear. Select Have Disk .
    5. Another box, Install from Disk , appears.
    6. Click the Browse to locate the expanded files directory (i.e., c:\Program files\Hewlett-Packard\LaserJet 1020-1022 Drivers).
    7. Click on the file ending with .inf .
    8. Click Open , and then Okay and let files install.
11. If you are adding the printer for the first time, follow the steps below, otherwise proceed to step 12.
    1. Click Add New Printer .
    2. Follow the instructions of the Add Printer Wizard .
12. Finished. Send a print job to the printer

- restoring will not delete old attemps, add remove programs does.

- Delete drivers, run this program, download driver from web save to location an h/drive. reboot. plug in usb, let it do its thing, select have disk, direct it to download info saved on hd.
