Last month Building contractor was working in my area and disrupted telephone service with his backhoe. ( telephone lines are burried underground). Service has been restored but ever since the mishap are modem reports very slow access. The telephone company would like documentation of the access speed becouse they belive all the problems have been addressed. What do you recommend a way to demonstrate to the telephone company that there is still a problem

Try: http://www.speedtest.net from your computer.
Get a neighbour to try it on their computer (assuming that they have
DSL access, not cable-modem access, and assuming that pay the same amount/month for the DSL service, i.e.,"lite" versus "lite", "high-speed" versus "high-speed".

Or, if you have a laptop, connect your computer to your neighbour's DSL-service, and run SpeedTest.

Most ISPs have speed test programs on their site.
You can uses their system or this one:

This page gives you some really good advice about collecting information from your modem / router to give to the ISP concerning your modem's operation:

How deep to dig a french drain side of a driveway

It all depends on the soil conditions, you want to consider the size of your gravel that you use for your french drain and next thing is,
few days before you start to dig your drainage make sure you should contact your local utility company and driveway contractors. Recently, my husband and I just moved into a new house in Long Island area, and I wanted to install a French drain which would help me to hold water. So I got in contact with the local utility company and driveway Long Island contractors to have all the underground utility lines of our property which are located and marked.

What type of pipe should I use to replace my broken underground water line. I live in the Atlanta, GA area.

You will need to check on building codes. Copper is usually best from meter to house.

When a call comes in it rings one time then stops

This is often caused by a partial short on the phone line. I would first test the line at the incoming interface. If this is a standard phone line(not from a cable company or broadband provider), there is usually an outside interface box where the phone line connects to the building wiring. Open the right side of the box with a screwdriver. In this box there is typically a short line cord plugged into a modular jack(test jack), if you unplug this line cord and connect a standard phone, you will be connected to the phone line but isolated from the building wiring. Make a test call to your number with the standard phone connected to the test jack and if the problem continues then the trouble is on the phone service provider's side and you will need to report the trouble to your service provider. If the trouble does not occur with the phone connected to the test jack, then the trouble is on the building side. To find where the trouble is on the building side you will need to use a process of elimination to test each of the outlets, line cords, telephones and cabling to determine where the short is. This process can often take a lot of time and patience to find the trouble. It may be best to call a telephone tech at this point. If your service is from a cable company or broadband provider, then you will need to test the line at the equipment that converts the cable or broadband into dialtone to determine if the trouble is on the service provider side or the building wiring side. Send a comment if you need more information on finding the trouble in your building wiring, outlets or telephones.

Hi, I’m facing one issue with D-Link (DCM-202) Modem from last week. The internet connection frequently disconnecting with interval time less than 10 min. I have checked with service provider COM CAST...

Is this a new issue or a recent harware/cable change or did this use to work and now has the disconnect issues.

Ensure that your cable has NO Splitters (especialy outside) from the Drop outside to your modem.

Check all cableing between Computer and Modem to Cable Drop.

You can also look at the Modem Status Page to check your UpStream and DownStream signals. You may have to have someone come out to check out the line running from your house to the pole (or pedestal if its underground)? Many factors can cause an outside cable to deteriorate, and when that happens you can end up with alot of signal leakage and frequent disconnects. And that goes for both overhead and underground lines. Good Luck, and post back if you need more help. (try to include your Modem Status Logs)

My Meridian M7310 phone system is unable to receive or give out going calls on Line 3 only. In addition there is no dial tone on that line only. The other 4 lines are working great. I have already gone to...

Either the line from the telephone company is out or the line port in the line card is defective. The easiest way to determine if its one or the other is to report the line trouble to the telephone company. they'll check the line up to where it comes into the building, and if theres a problem on thier side they'll get it back in service. If the report the line is good to the building, then you'll need to call your telephone system service technician.

Vtech model 2656 caller id is not working. How can I fix this?

Hello,

Found this on the VTECH support site regarding your model:

Tip 1 of 1
spacer.gif
Caller ID and Call Waiting ID are subscription services, available from most local telephone service providers. You must subscribe to these services in order for the features to work on your phone. Contact your local telephone service provider for more information.

In addition, your caller must be calling from an area that supports caller ID.

Both you and your caller’s telephone service provider must use compatible caller ID systems.

If you subscribe to DSL service for this telephone line, DSL filters must be plugged into EVERY phone jack that has a phone. The DSL signal can cause caller ID disruption, static, noise and other issues on your line. DSL filters block the high frequency DSL signals from being transmitted to the telephone. If you are not using the DSL filters provided by the telephone company, this will cause static/noise and possibly caller id issues on your phones.

In most cases, we recommend you connect the plug end of the DSL filter into the telephone jack, then connect a telephone cord between the filter and your phone.

Please contact your service provider to obtain DSL filters and installation information.

Caller ID and Call Waiting ID may not be available for every call. Common reasons are incompatibilities between your and your caller’s service, transmission errors and answering calls before the ID data is received.

In addition if you would like to contact them or get more info on your phone, then use this link:

Compressor won't come on, thus A/C is not working.

Tell your contractor that you are notifying the local building inspector. He will not like this. I hope he applied for a permit to do the install. If he did, tell your local building department and demand that they activate the contractors bond to pay for another contractor to complete the job. And/or call the local Goodman distributor and let them know how dissatisfied you are with that particular contractor that they are selling to. See if they can help you. Worst case scenario, accept your loss and call another contractor. I would write a letter to the local newspapers editor and the better business bureau regarding this shady contractor. Put an add in the newspaper notifying everyone what happened to you. Put a sign in your front yard stating DO NOT USE THIS CONTRACTOR
This contractor can not afford to have the bad publicity that you can inflict upon him. Call him ten times a day. Call him at 3 AM every night. Haunt him.
Good luck........
