How does the fridge compartment get cold? Is it a thermostat or condenser problem?

The self defrosting feature of your unit has a failed component. Possible defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or timer. The defrost timer may be part of the main circuit board of the unit.

Refrigerator doesnt seem to cool enough, things are freezing in the bottom shelves of fridge but nothing else is getting very cold

Take a hammer and tap lightly on the coils every half inch. It will take a few minutes to do this to break up the crud in the coils. The crud may plug up a dryer, but it was not working anyway...

American fridge/freezer - fridge stopped cooling, freezer side ok

Have you pulled out the refrigerator and cleaned or used a vacum cleaner to get out the dirt and dust off the back of the coils, or if the coils are underneath, you need to get an inexpensive appliance brush for fridge, and clean the coils under the fridge, pull off the panel on the front bottom of the fridge, get a flash light and look to see if the coils are covered in dust....may just need to vacum and use appliance brush underneath...this should be done at least one a year, you will notice your fridge running much better and cooling back to normal.......hope this helps......

Refrigerator not cold . Motor keeps clicking on

Sounds like it is cycling on overload. Condenser coils (may be on back, or under bottom of fridge) may need cleaning. If coils are under bottom, it could be the condenser fan not working, causing it (compressor) to overload. Possibly compressor start relay bad. Worse case, compressor may be bad. If you don't know much about electrical stuff (compressor, relay, etc...) you should have a repair tech check it for you. If coils are dirty, clean them with a vac and coil brush (gently). You can get coil brushes at most hardware stores (Lowes, Home Dep, Ace, etc...) Hope this helps.

Whirlpool side by side - refrigerator not staying cold

How old is it? have you ever cleaned the coils under neath where the dust gathers?
I've seen people that never cleaned the coils underneath and behind the plastic grill at the bottom front of the fridge that had a warm fridge and the after they used a refrigerator brush down below were okay the next day! They had 2 inches of solid dust under there blocking the air that is supposed to be passing over the coils to cool the system!! Get out the book and read the directions how to do this procedure that I'm telling you about first before you call service! If it's not caked with dust and obscuring
the site of the coils, then you need service instead!
Bless You

Fridge too cold

First, clean it the unit out and fully defrost.  Clean the condenser coils.  Don't pack in so much food, don't open the door too frequently.  Never block any air channels. Never leave uncapped liquids in the fridge or freezer.  Set the fridge at about 40 degrees...use an outdoor thermometer.  Freezer at about 0-5F.

Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator too cold

On a fridge freezer only the fridge temperature is monitored. In a cold location the fridge might not even need cooling and the freezer would get too warm but the thing won't care.

If the fridge sensor sees it as too warm then it will keep the motor running and the first thing to get really cold is the freezer.

Remember the freezing part is not temperature controlled ion a fridgefreezer.

Refrigerator stopped working, freezer works fine

Sounds like the evap fan is not running. The fan takes cold air from the freezer to cool the refer compartment. If the freezer is cold the compressor is running. Generally the freezer will stay cold since the cooling coils are there but it must have the fan working to get the air up to the refer area. Pull everything out the freezer and take the back panel off to view the coils and fan, etc. It's a simple easy job to change the fan. If you find the coils are a total block of ice then it's another problem... the defrost cycle isn't working. Sooo... see if the fan is running in the freezer compartment first. See for fan location, item 18 is the fan motor. Let us know what you find out.
