Where is defrost timer reset switch on a Maytag mfd2561heb

This model Maytag has a defrost control board and not a defrost timer. Your control board is located at the top of your refrigerator behind the display.

Maytag refrigerator model number rsw22eo having problem with freezer not defrosting

You have a=>68233-3 Defrost Timer mounted somewhere behind the kick plate at base next to floor. Can you turn the timer slowly clockwise until the compressor and fans stop? I want you to force the refrigerator into defrost. If after 30 minutes the refrigerator does not restart running again replace the defrost timer. Once you place the refrigerator into defrost the elements should melt the ice that has been building up. If placing the timer into defrost does not help you will need to replace the=> 61001846 Defrost Heater Assembly . I am here if you have questions, John Tripp Appliance 911

Fridge not cooling but freezer is maytag model mtb1553ar

Your MTB1553ARA Refrigerator sounds to me like it is not defrosting properly. Look inside the freezer along the back wall and see if a layer of snow is building from top to bottom. To test if defrost will work open the fresh food compartment and look for a small opening were you can turn the defrost timer slowly clockwise until compressor and fans stop running. Click here=> MTB1553ARA Fresh Food Section Control Panel and in that photo you will see the=> 68233-2 Defrost Timer that has a dial in the center I need you to turn clockwise. After the compressor and fans stop I want you to allow the refrigerator to remain off as it is for 30 minutes. The freezer should now be defrosting and if after thirty minutes the refrigerator does not restart on its own then again turn the timer again slowly until it does restart. If you need to restart the fridge this way then the problem is the 68233-2 Defrost Timer Next I will detail how to install the 61001946 Defrost Heater and the=> 61005254 Defrost Thermostat
if the defrost timer is not the reason for this happening. Here is a MTB1553ARA Parts Manual PDF Let me know here how the defrost timer test goes, Thanks Sea Breeze

Maytag refrigerator not cooling and freezer has frost over coils/vents

Your refrigerator is not defrosting.
3 parts that can be contributing to your issue.
1. Defrost Timer/ Defrost board. Without knowing the model, if it is older, you have a timer, newer ones have a control board that does the same thing. Lots of maytags with the boards have issues.
2. Defrost Bimetal- found at the coils, the bimetal could be bad-cheap part.
3. Defrost Heater- least likely for a maytag to have a problem with the heater.

NOT MAKIN ICE

Hello,

Take off the back panel in the freezer. 1/4" screws. Use a nut driver or ratchet and socket with an extension.
2. Behind the frost is the evaporator and the defrost heaters. One heater in the middle and one at the bottom. They are glass tubes. If you can see the bottom heater that is great. If not use a hair dryer and defrost only the very bottom to expose the lower heater only.
3. Now in the refrigerator section at the top where the controls are, take off the long plastic piece to expose the timer. The timer should be on the right hand side and have a little circle that is slotted. Get a flat screwdriver and turn that timer slowly clockwise just until it clicks and the refrigerator turns off. This will put it into defrost.
4. Now look at that heater that you exposed and see if it glows and gets hot. If it does, then the timer is bad.
5. If the heater doesn't come on then go ahead and defrost the rest of the evaporator with the hair dryer. This will take a little while. Don't poke at the evaporator!!!
6. Once totally defrosted look at both heaters. They should look like clear glass and see a silver coil running through them. If they look discolored at all then the heaters are bad. The heaters come as a complete assembly with the defrost thermostat which clips onto the evaporator.
7. If the heaters look okay the only way to know for sure if they are bad is to check continuity with a meter on the plug at the end of their wiring harness. If you can check that then you can splice in a new defrost thermostat to solve the problem. However the best thing to do is replace the heaters and defrost thermostat . It is easy to install.
Follow these steps and this will solve your problem.
Do take care....

The coil in the freezer area ices up completely so that there is no cold air circulation to the upper refrigerator area. Do I have a problem with the defrost part of the unit and if so, how do I fix it?...

This sounds like the defrost cycle is not working. You can manually turn the knob on the defrost timer to see if your defrost heaters come on. If they do you need a new defrost timer, if they don't you will need to check the heaters or the safety switch for continuity. If your meter shows no continuity thru the heater it is time to replace it. Same goes for the safety switch.
If this sounds like to much please contact a qualified service technician.

On the maytag defrost timer: it's probably beside the cold control in the plastic housing on the ceiling of the FF section.
