Question about Kenmore Ovens

1 Answer

The oven, which is mounted on the wall next the the stove, doesn't get hot. I had an elecrician in and he said it wasn't the heating element. In fact he said the heating element for the broiler is working it's just the top heating element for the oven that isn't making the oven hot. What part or parts do you suppose might be required?

My wonderful oven is malfunctioning. The grill works fine and the fan spins but the oven won't heat up at all. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Sorry Anon, but there are tons of ovens manufactured, so with no make & model I can only suggest that you try to check to see if you have any fuses or breakers popped - You'll have to find these yourself.
Next the grill is the top oven element, the oven heat comes from the bottom element as heat rises. Is this element burned out?
You will need a multimeter and a screwdriver.
Remove the back of the oven, after you have pulled it out from the wall and unplugged it from the wall. Then unscrew whatever portion of the back of the oven that will expose the bottom element, disconnect one end of the element from any wiring of the stove, and using the meter on Resistance setting, see if you get a relatively low resistance reading - If not, then the element may have died.
If you can't figure how to access he ends of the bottom element, then you need to get someone who can help you or sorry, call in an appliance repairman

We have a GE electric stove with a JDP 39 oven element which has burned out. How do we get the bottom heating element out to replace it?

UNPLUG the stove or turn off its breaker.

Inside the oven, trace the element back to the rear wall. There should be one screw on each side next to where the element goes through the rear wall. Unscrew that screw on each side and pull the element toward you - it'll come easily, bring its wiring behind it (this is why there must be NO power to the stove!). Detach the wiring from the element... DO NOT allow the wires to pull back through the wall, or you'll have to pull the whole range out to retrieve them.

To install the new element, just reverse that procedure.

Hotpoint oven won't heat above 250 degrees broiler works fine as well as the stove top

either its the oven sensor rod located at the top of the ovens cavity,or your bake element could be getting a hot spot which is when it gets a discolored spot in the element and can no longer pass sufficient current to heat the oven past 250 degrees

Removing oven element to install new one

Turn power off at service panel (220 volt circuit breaker). Remove screws from heating element mount on wall of oven. Pull heating element from wall of oven far enough out to see the where the wires/lugs are screwed to the heating element leads. Remove these screws. Replace element. Make sure screws on heating element lugs/leads are tight -- if not tight, arcing will occur.

I have a Whirlpool electric build in oven with self-cleaning feature. It is about 8 years old and we just used the self-cleaning feature for the first time last week. The oven was not that dirty, but...

Your thermal fuse or TOD mounted to the back of the oven went out during the self clean,it shuts off the power to the elements.
The oven must be removed from the wall to change this.

Oven and stove top not getting hot.

The most probable cause is that the heating elements are getting 110V instead of 220V. Check the voltage to the heating elements.

HOTPOINT ELECTRIC STOVE

two things---when you open the oven door do you see a button on the right or left side?if so thats a door switch and if its bad you will get no voltage to the element.the next thing is your hi limit is bad.this is a sensor that monitors the temp of the oven and if its bad you wont get any heat.some hi limits reset themselves others you have to manually reset them.let me know.
