1998 Dodge Durango 318 V8. Engine won't idle. Car has been sitting. Battery was discharged - had to jump start. If you keep your foot on accelerator, engine runs smooth. Once you take it off, it dies. Hard to start unless you press accelerator also. Is there and idle adjustment or is it computer controlled? Computer reset procedure? Thanks in advance for you help.

Probably lost idle memory, all computer controlled keep it running for a period it should regain the idle memory if not make sure no rodent chew damage to wires to the throttle position sensor, if check engine light is on scan for faults.

SOURCE: I have a 1990 Dodge

the numbers are 12, 41, 55
12- direct batttery inut to controller disconnected within last 50 ingnition key-on cycles
41- alternator field circuit- an open or shrted condition detected in the alternator control circuit.
55- final code - indicates the end of the scan codes

I've replaced the alternator and checked all the wiring still can't find the solution. I've posted to find out if the alternator control circuit can be repaired.

2003 Dodge Durango (5.9L V8) won't stay running unless you keep your foot on the gas.

Check temp sensor and TPS, throttle positioning sensor. The power control module,"pcm.is a possible thought.Just check all connections. It is always a good idea to spray WD 40 or equivalent in the connections.

My 1998 dodge caravan won't stay running. starts up but shuts down instantantly or when i take my foot off the gas pedal,

ok i have a 1998 durango with the 5.2L 318 engine. had trouble with a bad cell in my battery. I went out bought an optima red top battery for it 800cca. put it in and had same trouble. No start without putting foot on gas. wouldn't stay running without holding foot on gas. CPU has to relearn it's programming once you unplug it for long periods of time. mine was without power for about 2-3 weeks till i got new battery. Start with this.. first check under air filter make sure a squirrel hasn't made a mess under your air filter and it's clogging the air intake. Then pull off the lid to your injector cover ( the screw down lid coming from the air box ( with air filter in it) to "carb") make sure all your cables move freely. put that all back together and close hood. Start truck with foot slightly on gas pedal to get started. keep it at about 1k to 1500 rpm for about 1-2 minutes. Rev motor to about 2500rpm and let it die out if it will. Get out lock doors with key fob if you have it. if not make sure to lock doors. ( trust me it worked for me) let sit for 5 minutes. come back out and unlock door and relock door 3 times with fob ( if you have it ) or key if you don't have a fob. Then unlock it with the key and enter vehicle. Start truck as before and keep it around 1k to 1500 rpm again for about 30 seconds rev it up and should keep running. Mine did. I think the iac was stuck from sitting and has now since loosened up.
Good luck hope ti works for you.

I have 02 durango started it put it in reverse gave it gas and it died checked the fuses only one 20amp fuse needed change Icgs before the problem info seatbelt light airbaglight abs brakelight on the...

The stall in reverse is most likely unrelated to your problem, unless your alternator went bad, and your battery is discharged. Try charging/replacing your battery. A jump start may not work as Dodge trucks don't like to idle well with a weak battery. Then try starting again, if it runs check the voltage at the battery. You should have 13-14.5 volts, if not you have a dead alternator. If it still won't start, please post some more details.

2004 dodge durango v8 when i started it this morning it would not stay running, I would have to keep foot on gas to keep it running and the vehicle was idling very rough

Durangos are very sensitive to bad or failing batteries. Have your battery load tested. If it registers flaky or is older than 5 years, I would replace it anyway.

Dodge will turn on then will turn off try to start again will turn on but will have to keep foot on gas to stay running

What engine? Was the battery dead or recently replaced? If not, load test the battery several times using a good, old fashioned carbon pile tester. If it fails, replace it and drive around a while to re-learn the idle speed motor steps.

2001 dodge dakota will not start

Sounds like a bad battery, or bad/loose connection there. After the battery is replaced, or disconnected, it will need a little bit to relearn how to idle.
