The cooling coils are normally located around the freezer with the refrigerator being cooled via cold air circulating from the freezer to the refrigerator. If that concealed fan has failed, the mere fact that cold air falls might explain why the lower compartment is getting the hog's share of the cooling.
You should be able to see vents in the rear of the fridge; hold your hand (wet might be better) in front of those vents. You should be able to feel a flow of air into the fridge. If you don't, the fan may have failed.
Try Sears parts section to see if your unit is listed; they often have repair parts for many brands and models, and even more important, an illustration of your model which could guide you on how to access the fan for replacement.
Another possibility is the failure of the defrost timer that controls a heating coil also located near the freezer. If your defrost heater is staying on because the timer has failed, it could cause the situation you have. The timer is often located behind the grill at the bottom of the unit. Some of them have a **** to turn the timer mechanism manually. You can mark the protruding shaft position with a piece of tape or white-out to monitor if it is still running at all.
With the grill removed, try to remove as much of the dust bunnies from the coils as possible since this prevents the lower fan from getting air onto the coils to disperse the heat from the coils.

Fridge & freezer not cold enough

EASY FIX. TAKE ALL FOOD OUT OF FRIDGE AND FREEZER AND STORE IT.

THEN UNPLUG YOUR FRIDGE FOR 24HOURS WITH DOORS OPEN.

YOU WILL HAVE TO CLEAN UP ALOT OF WATER. THEN CLEAN THE FRIGE.

WHEN YOU PLUG IT BACK IN IT WILL WORK.

BUT THIS IS JUST A TEMP FIX. IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN IN ABOUT A YEAR OR TWO.

TO GIVE U A MORE PERMANENT FIX WILL TAKE SOME TIME. TRY THIS FIRST.

Refrigerator and freezer not getting cold enough

If the problem just gradually started happening, it's possibly the defrost cycle that's not working right. Fridge doesn't defrost, the cooling system ices up, and the cold air can no longer travel through the fridge.

You can tell that's the problem if you fully defrost the fridge (turn it off for a day), then start it up again. If it works OK for a while, then does the same thing after a few weeks that's what it is. Either way, you need a repair person to fix it, or you need to defrost it regularly, but then what do you do with your food while you do that???

Freezer not freezing enough and fridge not cold enough

Hello Scott, remove the food from the freezer side and remove the rear freezer panel. You will see a coil and it should be completely frosted over. If not then you have a sealed system issue. If it is froze solid in frost where you cannot even see the coil, then you have a defrost issue. You should have a little frost on all the coil, the defrost is what clears the frost so the evap fan motor can circulate the air thru out the unit. If frost is good, push the light door switch to start the fan. If it isn't running check for 120 volts. If it has voltage, but not running, replace the motor. Hope this helps.
