SOURCE: Sony VAIO internal wireless driver causes computer to lock up

There is a possibility you have a faulty wireless card. I would go with a external PCMCIA wireless card. Don't forget to disable the internal wireless card in the BIOS.

VGP-PRS20 port replicator stopped working

I haven't use replicators much but the one on My dell is still working.
I will suggest to remove the laptop(you probably did already) and then insert a USB and see if Windows says anything about it, do the same with the other components. If nothing works then I think the unit is bad or the connector on the back of the laptop is bad.
Of course if you had a similar replicator you can test your laptop and see if its port is bad.

My computer stopped recognizing the archos player. Now I can't put any new music in or delete anything.

try a different usb port

try restarting both the pc and player

try another usb device like a memory stick to see if it works

make sure all usb drivers are up to date

try the device on another computer to see if it works with it

if none of these work you will probably have to replace the device

I cannot power on acer 4520,instantly it auto off itself

reset the memory, with the laptop battery out and the adapter unplugged locate the memory access plate on the bottom, take the screw out and then carefully pry up the plate to access the memory,to take the memory out you will have to push out the plastic locking tabs located on each side of the memory stick at the same time until the memory stick springs up and then slide out away from the connector till the bottom of the stick is clear. If you have 2 sticks take them out and then install the sticks one at a time.If that doesnt work then try to narrow it down by unplugging the cd rom, hard drive, etc. If none of these work then you most ;ikely have a short somewhere ,inspect all ports and make sure none of the pins are touching especially the usb ports and the pcmcia slots, look for damage anywhere that might indicate it was dropped or fell.If the motherboard is at fault you will have to have it serviced by a qualified technician.good luck

Computer is saying it has malfunctioned.

Well, it probably does have a problem if it worked on this same computer before without a problem. You could try the memory stick in the following to isolate the source:

1) try in a different USB port (to see if it is USB port related - only this port has failed - others ports will work).
2) try in a port on a different USB controller (to see if it is USB controller related - all ports on this controller will fail. Other ports on other controllers will work).
3) try in a different computer (to see if it is related to the USB stick itself ).
4) repeat the process with known good USB device such as a mouse or other storage device (this will confirm or cast doubt on the results found above).

That's about all you can do. Retire or replace the source of the problem. I hope thgis helps - good luck!

Dear sir/madam I just bought a Kingston DataTraveler DTIG3 16gb memory stick, but when i pit it into my laptop it would not find the driver. Is there an easy fix. I have a Sony Vaio laptop running...

You do not need a driver for a USB memory stick. Just put it in the USB port and usually the machine will recognize and ask you how do you want to open it. You can also get up my computer and it will be listed as a removable drive and you can click on that listing and it will open up and say this drive is empty. You must copy files to it or pictures or anything else to see what you have stored. Remember it is only a storage point much like your hard disk.

I used this memory stick on my old PC at home and it was wrking okay. When i put it into the usb port it showed up ad removable E. Now I have upgraded my pc to a laptop it doesent recognise the stick....

I assume when you say "memory stick" that you mean a USB memory stick rather than a Sony memory stick.

You should try it in another USB port (if ther is one on your laptop). If that doesn't work, then try it in another PC - if it doesn't work in another PC either, then it is likely that the memory device is at fault, otherwise. If it works fine on another PC, then it is likely that it is the USB port on your new laptop that is at fault in some manner.

If you have another USB device you can use (anything will do - a mouse, webcam, etc), try it in the port you tried the memory stick in. If nothing happens, then in all likeleyhood, the USB port is at fault. If the other device works, then it is probably the USB memory device that is faulty.

If the device works in another PC, try reformatting it as FAT file system on that PC, and see if you can then see it in your new laptop.

How can i identify the usb ports on my computor? I am running a rebit backup and it says it runs faster on a 2.0 usb. I have three ports but not sure what speed they are. Thanks.

Take a recent USB memory-stick, that supports USB 2.0.

Stick it into one of your USB slots.
If the balloon pops-up to say "this device will run faster in a USB 2.0 port", you have just plugged it in to a USB 1.1 slot.

Unplug it, and try the next USB slot.

Perhaps, *NONE* of your USB slots will support USB 2.0.

does your usb mem stick have any light indicators? if yes , whenever you put you usb stick, does it light? if it lights are USB ports is still ok,  You just have to reformat or partition you USB stick.
(you can also try other devices like usb mouse or any usb devices that lights up when you connect it)

if there are no lights if you plug, or no indication that a power goes to your stick, its possible that your usb your are busted. if this is the case, if your laptop has a PCMIA slot, you can find a pcmia USB card, if you dont have. your only option is replace the  motherboard.
