You're not providing much in the way of information here...all copiers have a sensor for each paper tray that signals the copier they have paper available to perform the necessary function. The sensor(s) could just be dirty and need to be cleaned. Check the paper tray to make sure the paper is loaded correctly, meaning if the tray has a bottom that lifts up as the paper is used, kind of like a spring mechanism, the sensor in question could be located there.
If my answer doesn't provide enough detail for you, please add a comment with the make and model number of the sopier, which paper tray is having the problem and whether or not other paper trays are acting up; also please post how long this problem has been occurring and whether or not the copier is "new" (less than six months old) or not.

I loaded paper and alarm still worked

could be a broken or misplaced paper present sensor lever. When the paper tray is loaded and place back into the machine a "paper present sensor" is actuated and sends a signal back to the machines logic. If this sensor is broken or missing, it never sends the signal therefore the machine thinks its out of paper.

Load specialty paper Follow these steps to load specialty paper such as card stock, envelopes, photo paper, or labels.
Before you proceed, verify that your printer supports the specialty paper on which you are attempting to print by viewing the product specifications . If the size, type, or weight of the paper is not available, the printer does not support printing it. Also note the tray loading capacity for the type of paper on which you are attempting to print.

Mfc 7860dw will not print from paper tray

Check the paper level in tray 1 and keep the paper within the levels indicated by the arrows on the side. I had this same problem, and although the paper tray accommodates the extra paper, the printer obviously does not like it and defaults to the manual feed.

When the paper drawer is fully-loaded and inserted properly, the "load paper" light blinks indicating that there is no paper (hence you cannot photocopy). However, when you pull the drawer out,...

if you remove the paper tray and you look in the slot that the paper tray slides in you should see a sensor flag hanging down remove the flag, it seems that the sensor is faulty the machine should work but wont let you know when the paper is finished so the very last page will show paper jam

Loading your paper
Paper loading tips:
● Load paper with the side to be printed facing down.
● You can print photos and documents on a wide variety of paper sizes, from
8 x 13 cm (3 x 5 inch) up to 22 x 61 cm (8.5 x 24 inch). The 10 x 15 cm
(4 x 6 inch) photo paper is available with and without tabs.
● Before loading paper, pull the Main paper tray out (use the Main tray release or
the tray grips) and slide out the paper-width and paper-length guides to make
room for the paper. After loading paper, adjust the guides to fit close to the edges
of the paper without bending the paper. When finished loading paper, push the
Main tray back in all the way.
● Load only one type and size of paper at a time in the same tray.
● After loading paper, extend the Output tray extension to catch your printed pages.

When I try print a picture on my printer dock the paper doesn't load from the tray. The light goes on showing that the paper tray is empty. Thanks Maria

Only put about 20 sheets in at a time and fan the sheets a few times before loading them, so they don't stick together. Although they come in packs of 25, the docks work better if you just take a few out of the pack before loading the tray. You can easily put them in, after you print a few pictures.

Keeps saying no paper in tray although paper is in tray

I encounter that problem before, after I checked the sensors, feed unit and mechanism nothing is wrong or broken but still NO PAPER indicates on the display .I only noticed with the machine is the cassette tray or the paper tray, when you try to pullout the cassette tray and look at its left side, there is missing parts on it. There is a spring and actuator on it that will engage on the feed unit drive. Try to find the same machine and look at the cassette tray to see the missing parts on it. You can buy a new cassette because the parts that is missing maybe not available.
