Hi i have been trying to install xp on Compaq presario cq56 but gives an error msg and there is no option in bios to change from sata

Are you trying to replace Windows 7? If so, I recommend you run WinXP in a virtual mode. Assuming your processor supports virtualization (I think it does) then all you need is the professional or ultimate version of Windoows 7. You can then download the necessary program and a special copy of WinXP pro. This allows you to run WinXP inside Windows 7 without the need to reboot. Look at the links below. You will need a legal version of Windows 7 pro or ultimate. I am not sure what you currently have. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/vi... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/...

How to reformat pentium 4 2.8g to windows xp

Since Windows XP isn't a filesystem, that doesn't quite make sense, but it sounds like you want to find or buy a Windows XP DVD, put it in the machine's DVD drive, enter the BIOS to check your settings and set it to boot from CD-ROM (it works for DVDs too, after all,) save settings and reboot...then install WinXP.

Keep in mind that if you have unsaved data on the system's hard drive, you would want to swap it out for a new one until Windows XP (or Ubuntu, or Fedora 15, much more modern OS which are quite capable of running WinXP programs using a program environment called 'wine' (no relation to drvino.com)) is installed; that way you're not going to overwrite old stuff you wanted to keep.

Then you can install the old drive on whatever interface is handy and migrate your settings over, make backups, use the old drive for pagefile or to try new filesystems and virtualization environments, etc.

How to solve pci.sys error during reformating of the hard drive

You have two ways to solve the problem of "Pci.sys Is Missing or Corrupt"
Error Message When You Start Windows.

1.Booting with WinXP CD to access the Recovery Console’s Repair option,
and then copy from WinXP CD the missing or damaged Pci.sys file to
Systemdrive:\Windows\System32\drivers folder , Exit and Reboot.

start the recovery console and type:
set AllowAllPaths = true
expand d:\i386\pci.sy_ c:\windows\system\drivers32 /y
If you don't type
set AllowAllPaths = true you can't access the windows folder.

2. Booting with WinXP CD and then perform a Windows XP Repair Reinstall
of the currently installed system.

Windows XP Pro installed but computer boots to Home Edition

It sure is possible.
I would take it back to them and demand that WINXP Pro is put back in there and it boot correctly
They saved about 50 bucks putting in WINXP Home.

Sounds like a bunch of rookies trying to pull a fast one.
