Question about Canon imageRUNNER 400S Copier

2 Answers

We are getting black fibers on our copies and faxes---what do we need to replace? We can see the part (roller) and can see the fibers that are burnt off but can't get to it completely and just need to know so we can get it fixed before it causes major problems. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!!!

The fuser has two rollers, one is heat and the other is pressure. I've seen this happen before to Xerox and Ricoh machines, and it has almost always been the heat roller in the fuser that is coming apart. I believe you can embed the image if you like, so let me look at the pic and I will be able to get back to you rather quickly..

Look at the box you are typing in; there should be some icons up there. The one that looks like a tree is to embed an image. If it is saved on your hard drive you can click there and embed the pic.

You must not have the icons I am looking at. Unfortunately I cannot do what you asked, it is frowned upon here at Fixya. If you could describe what you are seeing here, I can look at a Canon 400S online and determine the problem.

If I am not mistaken, what you are looking at is the fuser roller and the cleaner web roller. The fuser heats up and melts the ink into the paper and the cleaning web roller keeps it from getting gunked up. Your copier is in need of service from a Canon technician, unless you have a tech where you are already.

Black line on scanned copy

If you notice poor image quality in scans, faxes, or copies, you may need to clean the scan lens and the white roller.
  1. Unplug the power cord from the wall.
  2. Open the control panel.
  3. Pull the roller lever forward, and then lift the white roller out of the All-In-One. Note: The scan lens is located under the white roller.
  4. Use a clean, lint-free cloth dampened with water to wipe the white roller and the scan lens.
  5. Reinstall the white roller.

I recommend to clean out an optics. Take apart a cartridge and well blow through, clean the rollers and contacts.

THERE ARE LARGE STREAKS OF INK ON ALL COPIES AND

The green roller is the drum which has a cleaning blade to remove excess toner, when the drum gets older it becomes clogged and will dump toner back out onto the drum. Just some info on it. Best fix is replace the drum, you could take it apart and attempt to dump and clean it but it's rarely worth doing that.

We had a paper jam and I got the paper out but now the fax machine is printing out pages that are smeared with black toner

The fusing unit heat roller is damaged or worn out and it needs to be replaced. The roller has non-sticking teflon coating. When this coating is bad, toner start sticking to it and causing jams and bad copy quality.

Big streaks on copies from Sharp SF-7800 copier, not fax machine.

You probably have some build up on the glass, which happens if you use the auto feeder most often. Alcohol type cleaner will remove with a very softcloth. One small dot will look like a long streak on a feeder, much like a streaked fax. The other issue is the photoreceptor belt has nicks or is dirty eaither way it needs to be replaced. Try the cleaning first and you may have to look hard for the small dots built up on the glass.

Black spots on printer

Most Likely the PCU (photoconductor) needs replacing, but it could be a fuser roller problem. It's impossible to say for sure without seeing it.

Try removing the print cartridge, cleaning the roller with alcohol, replace the print cartridge and press firmly to ensure it's installed correctly and replace cover. This should solved your problem.

When we copy on our 4750e fax it comes out with black page

Can you see light from the scanner unit with you make a copy or try to send out faxes? The bulb for the scanner may be burnt. You might be able to find a replacement bulb, search google or contact Brother.

Ink cartridges, recieving fax

It sound like your machine is receiving but as soon as it tries to prints the fax it has this problem.

Rewind the ink ribbon so it is nice and tight in the housing. Clean the black roller above it with some cleaning alcohol or equivalent (nothing too harsh).

See how that goes if you are still having problems replace the whole cartridge (not the refills) PC-401.

Sounds like a charge problem, check the clutch that moves the charge roller to contact the drum. The clutch is on the back of the machine. Brad
