Question about Panasonic CF18DJAMXKM Notebook

1 Answer

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-18. The keyboard

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-18. The keyboard is typing multiple letters upon a single keystroke. Most of them are wrong and I don't know how to fix it. Example:
If I type a ";" then I get "l:]".
Then, if I hit the number lock key and hit ";" then I get "3+]".
Also, the number lock key and the backspace key seem to be sharing functions. Both of them now backspace and turn the number lock on and off.

Any ideas?

Connect an external keyboard to your laptop. If the external keyboard works properly that means the keyboard of your laptop is defective and you have to replace it. If you get the same problem with the external keyboard reinstall your operating system (it could be a virus).

    My keyboard is frozen

When any Panasonic Toughbook is frozen,
    you can try the following:

    1) Plug-in an external USB Keyboard and see
if that works. If it does, then at least you can continue
to work in a round-about way.

    2) Go to Programs, Accessories and Ease of Access.
Choose On Screen Keyboard. You can now type with
a keyboard which is display on the screen.
    Better than nothing.

    3) Shut Down the Toughbook Properly or if the unit
is really frozen Hold Down the Power Button for
10-15 seconds until the unit powers off. This is a
last resort way of regaining control of your Toughbook.

A replacement keyboard may be your final option.

    Good Luck.

    thank you for your query

The best place to look would be Ebay

I have had a look for you and there at present only full keyboard for sale, they are only approx $18 + the shipping

There are no single keys, but i would advise this is the best place as eventually somebody may advertise the key

    I hope this helps

    Panasonic toughbook cf 18

You will, at the very least, need to have the screen and screen cover replaced. If the hinges also damaged the bottom case to which they are attached, then it too will need replacing.

If you can't get it repaired locally, let me know.

Keyboard is stuck in numeric mode. Can't type

On the Panasonic Toughbook CF-51 there is a key located on the top right next to the F12 function key called "NumLk" or Num Lock.
Press this key once and the embedded numeric keypad is enabled.
Press it a second time and it is disabled.
How do you know if it is enabled or disabled?
Simple: Observe the LED above the keyboard. If the second light with the square symbol and the number "1" is lit up, then the NumLock is enabled. If that LED is not lit up it is disabled.

    Good Luck.

    Need to disassemble

to remove the keyboard on the cf-18 keyboard you must remove the 4 screwsby the ESC, F4, F10, and PAUSE key. once removed lift the 2 covers and holding the keyboard from Function key sides lift up slowly. There are 4 sticky tapes holding the keyboard, once some of the tapes are off you can slide the keyboard up towards the LCD to remove. The connector to the keyboard can be removed by removing 3 screws from the aluminum center cover found under the keyboard
